Silent Moments//Phan

Dan's POV.

I roll over to my blaring alarm clock groaning and hitting the top of it trying to shut it off. I hit it multiple times until the screaming of the clock comes to a stop.

I sit up and rub my eyes trying to get the sleep out of them. I yawn and stretch my arms above my head and bring my long legs over the edge of my bed. I stand up and get dressed as today is the first day at my new high school.

I never liked school, I mean who does, but for my school has been very difficult. I mean I haven't talked in 8 years. Being mute at school causes me to be bullied a shit ton so we're constantly moving.

I get dressed in black skinny jeans and a simple black T-shirt. I grab my phone off my nightstand and I walk downstairs to see my mother in the kitchen making coffee. I go up behind her and give her a hug before I go to make my breakfast. My mum looks over at me and smiles.

“Good morning Dan" she says in her cheery yet tired voice.

“Morning to you too mum”  I sign at her using ASL.

She smiles at me and takes her coffee and sits at the table. I grab a white bowl from the cabinet above the sink and then grab the cereal off of the counter. After I fix my cereal I sit down with my mum and eat my cereal totally forgetting about school.

“Dan honey, you need to hurry so you can get to school on time” she says. I nod in response and after I finish my cereal and then rinse the bowl and set it in the sink.

I climb the stairs and head back to my room to finish getting ready. I make sure my bag was ready for the first day of school and I head to the bathroom and I immediately turn on the straightener. As I wait for it to heat up I brush my teeth and get myself ready. I brush out my hair and straighten it so I wouldn't have my Hobbit hair.  I head back to my room and grab my black backpack and slip on my shoes. I make sure I have my phone and I head out for school. I put the earbuds that are wrapped around my phone into my ears and blast music blocking out the world as I head into the direction of my new school.

I don't hurry to get to my new school but after about 15 Minutes of walking I get there. I turn my music down a little so I can somewhat hear what people are saying. I instantly feel like everyone is looking and me and I bring my hands to the straps of my backpack and grip onto them till my knuckles turn white. I hurriedly try to find my way to the front office so I can get my schedule. I finally found the office and I walk in to see a older lady sitting in the secretary chair with her black glasses on the edge of her nose. I look to my left to see a blonde girl sitting there excitedly. I mentally laugh at how excited she looks. I slowly and quietly walk up to the lady in the front and I wait for her to notice me.

“New student? You must be Daniel then.” She says in her monotone voice. I nod and she calls up the blonde named ‘Louise’

“She will be your guide today” she looks at me with no facial expression whatsoever.

I smile as the girl grabs my schedule and my hand and drags me out of the office waving at the lady in the office.

“I'm Louise!! What's your name?!” She asked practically jumping on me. I grab my schedule from her hand and point to my name

“Daniel! I like that name!” I look over at her and shake my head and cover up last 3 letters in my name.

“Oh! Dan! Sorry about that!” She giggles

“Let's go find your classes!” She grabs my hand again and starts to drag me down a hallway. I laugh to myself and continue being dragged.
