The first rays of sunlight appeared on the horizon as Mark took another sip of his cup of coffee. Under his eyes were dark circles as a result of staying up all night. Mark couldn't seem to fall asleep; his mind was way too occupied with thoughts about Emily.

He felt bad for her, knowing that she had loved Daniel for quite some time now.

But why did it hurt when she told him about her ongoing love for Daniel last night?

Today was the two friend's first day in the woods. Todat they'd explore a deeper part of the woods.

"Wow, look at these trees!" Emily said amazed by the heart formed by two thin trees as she walked a little further into the bushes in front of her.

"I know, right? I really love this place I al-" Mark went silent when he didn't see Emily.
"E-Emily?" He yelled as he looked around in a panicky way.

"Aargh!!" Mark screamed when he felt a hand grab his shoulder from behind.
He turned around only to face his "lost" friend.

Emily giggled as she recalled Mark's scream.
"You're such a scaredy-cat!" She said.

"I thought you got lost! Do you know how worried I was?" Mark asked in an annoyed voice.

"Too bad Daniel isn't here to protect me." The girl said.
Emily immediately put her hand over her mouth, shocked by what had just left her mouth.

Mark slowly turned around as he opened his mouth to say something.
"Oh, really?"

"I-I didn't mean it like tha-"The girl hurriedly said, trying to explain herself.

"No, no, don't worry! I understand... What is a best friend you've know for fourteen f*king years worth compared to your crush who doesn't even acknoledge your existence?!" Mark's voice cracked as he spoke his last sentence.

Emily felt her heart tremble as she realised what she had just said.

But before she could even realise what she felt while seeing his face, Mark said one last sentence which left Emily speeckless.

"Maybe we should end both our journeys here...as well as our relationship."
