"Jack HOLY SHITE WHERE ON EARTH ARE YOU!" I groan, totally aggravated that he isn't here yet. We were supposed to warm up half an hour before the assembly! It's been fifteen minutes now and I'm still waiting. That boy had better hope he had a good excuse or I was going to murder him. Okay, not really. But still.
I heard footsteps stomping up the stairs. "I am so, so, so sorry Sierra! Kylie tried to kiss me in the halls, but a teacher saw her try to tackle me, and she gave Kylie a talking to, and - and - and, I'm s-" he huffed and puffed from running up all the stairs, "sorry."
"Oh lord. Well, she is not gonna get away with that. Let's get started," of course. Kylie would try to undermine my almost-relationship with my long-time crush Jack. Go frickin figure.
I stared out at the crowd, my heart thumping in my ears. I had 600 pairs of eyeballs pinned on me. Well maybe 40 of them were talking and another 23 were on their phones, 30 of them completely zoned out and another 7 of there were drifting off to sleep. In the end it was only 500 eyes on me. I looked at Jack, hesitant. He nodded, and I opened my mouth to sing.
As soon as the first line was over, his mellow voice added a whole new dimension to the song. Soon enough the whole high school had their phone lights up and waving along. I smiled, and looked at him. I could tell both of our faces were lit up with the exhilaration of being on stage singing. Only one person wasn't swaying along with their phone. I'm sure you can guess who. Yep, Kylie the female dog, now my not-so best friend. We really needed to talk. Like soon.
My heart pounded as we neared the final notes of the song. Jack turned to me and smiled, sending a rush of energy into my heart. I've honestly never felt more alive.

The noisy halls sounded almost as if an elephant herd was stampeding through it. We walked through, two faces in a sea of hundreds, debating over basketball, as usual.
"I bet you they're not gonna make it past the first round," I said up for arguments.
"Well I bet they are," he replied defiantly crossing his arms, "How much would you be willing to bet."
"Well I'm broke, so I can't bet money," I told him, trying to figure out how I could get another kiss off of him.
"What about we bet on something else," he suggested.
"I don't have anything that you want," I replied, taking the bait.
He smiled, he knew the game I was playing, and he was playing along. "If the Raptors don't lose in the first round, I get a date with you somewhere," he grinned triumphantly, his pride a little bit childish.
I couldn't help but laugh, "Fine, and if they do lose in the first round, which they will by the way, I get to pick a place for a date."
"Deal." He made us shake on it, and his fingers slipped through mine without a second thought. Our fingers interlaced and I smiled down at the ground. For the first time, things were going right.
