Oscar Lakes High is a good school. It has your typical teachers and typical students. It isn't a campus that allows bulling, but instead offers freedom and creativity.

I like all of my classes actually, except algebra which is my least favorite. And here I was about to endure another agonizing quiz for which I know absolutely nothing about.

I opened my locker to get my algebra textbook, when i hear a familiar "Good Morning." In a monotone voice.

Turning to my left, I smile at Gabe who is wearing black skinny jeans, a long white T-shirt and his signature leather jacket.

"Good Morning" I say back with a toothy grin.

When Gabe takes in my presents, his eyes dart to my swollen cheek. His face immediately drops with anger.

"What the hell is that?" Gabe asks pointing to my cheek.

I quickly realize what he's pointing at and turn away from him, shooting him a make believe smile.

"What this? Oh, the craziest thing happend last night" I began to jog my memory of the fake story that I made up.

"I fell... going up the stairs"

Gabe looked at me as if I just grew two heads. "What?" He says finally breaking the silence.

"You're lying" he says stepping closer towards me. "What actually happened?"

I take a step back gazing into his eyes. I want to tell him the truth but I if I tell him, he'd just worry sick about me. I don't want to put Gabe in that position. Especially since we have the future of the band to think about.

I stiffer a smile and say "I just told you dummy, I was running up my stairs and I tripped and hit my face on the steps."

The more I told the story, the more I continued to believe it myself. Even though my fib seemed totally out of the ordinary.

People fall going up the steps..right??

Gabe gave me a look that was mixed with worry and anger. He took a step towards me and put his hands on my shoulders.

"Sy, don't you dare lie to me. I told you that if you ever needed anything you could call me. Now tell me what really happened." he demanded while not breaking our gaze.

I took Gabe's hands off of my shoulders and held them tightly.

"Gabe I promise, I'm telling you the truth. I'm just really clumsy that's all." I said reassuringly with a lite smile.

Gabe sighed "Okay, I believe you" he said.

A feeling of relief washed over me as I heard his words. I let go of his hands and turned back to my locker to grab the rest of my books. Gabe, still looked uneasy as he continued to stare at his empty hands.

Turning back towards him, I threw him another of my reassuring smiles and he smiled back.

"You ready for that algebra test?" He asked and I was thrilled at the change of subject.

"absolutely not", I said giving him a thumbs up.

Gabe giggled and as if on que, the bell rang.

"Don't you forget about the auditions." he said backing up away from me and shooting me with his pointer finger.

"How could I forget when you're gonna take me there anyway. Have you forgotten that you are my afternoon ride?" I say mimicking his hand movement's

"Good point" he says comically and we both laugh.

"I'll see you in 4th period" I say giving a small wave as I turn on my heel to head to class.
