"We can all go to the ocean!"

Shelly's thin, hollow face lit up with excitment as she talked about her fantasys. I couldn't help but try to look away. She looked awful, her skin was pale, and her happy eyes had sunk in and her body was now a skeleton cover in skin. She was so sick, but she certainly didn't act like it.

"Skydiving is something I've always wanted to do, do you agree Hunter?"

"Huh?"

"You weren't listening were you?"

"I heard you, well part of what you were saying."

I smiled her meakly. She sighed.

"Its ok, I'm boring anyway."

"Are you kidding me Shelly? You were the most interesting person I have ever knew."

I instantly shut my mouth when I realized how I said that.

"You said that as though i was already dead."

Her smile was gone and there were tears in her eyes.

"No, no Shelly. That's not what I meant. I'm sorry, this is just really hard for me, I don't want you to go."

Her faces softened and she reached up to put her hand on my face. It was warm and comforting, I put my hand over hers to keep it there.

"Death has to come at one point Hunter, and I guess death just thought it was my time you know?"

No, I didn't know. This couldn't be happening. Tears began to form in my eyes making it hard to see. Then she said something that I wouldn't expect her to say, especaily at that moment.

"I know how you feel about my brother."

"What?"

I blinked trying to register what she had said. She smiled a little laugh escaping from her thin, pale lips.

"I'm not blind Hunter. I see the way you look at him. And I know you have liked for him for a while now."

I felt my face going red so I turned away. I could still hear her chuckleing.

"It doesn't matter, he would never feel the same."

"Loves a funny thing Hunter, love always has a twist to everything and always shows up at the most random moments."

I turned back towards her raising my eyebrows.

"And when did you become the love doctor?"

"You know how much shit I pull out of my ass just to make you happy? A lot, I will tell you that."

I laughed. That was the thing I adored about Shelly. She was the only person who I could ever feel comfortable and happy around. I don't what I was going to do when she was gone.

I wrapped my arms around her, burrying my face into her strawberry smelling hair.

"I love you Shelly, you are my best friend."

"I love you too Hunter, and don't worry, I will never stop looking after you no matter where I am."

As we hugged I could hear crying. It was the first I had ever heard Shelly ever cry.
