Jaxon

The sound of my alarm clock buzzes through my room, bringing me back to reality. Reluctantly, I stretch my arm out from under the sheets to stop the sound.

I slowly peel the white sheets off of my body. All warmth that was trapped under the blankets disappear. My bare feet come in contact with the cool hardwood floor as I slowly rise and walk downstairs.

Scratching my chest, I entered the kitchen to see Courtney, her father, and my dad sitting together at the table. All eyes adverted towards me.

"Jaxon, so nice of you to join us," Courtney purred.

"God, son, put a shirt on.." dad said.

"I don't mind," Courtney says, biting her lip. Imbecile.

"Sorry, I was unaware we'd be having guests.." I say, eyeing Courtney.

"Never mind that. We were discussing the new arrangement between you and your girlfriend." I decide to ignore the g-word as I am intrigued by the said arrangement.

"New arrangement? What is it?"

"Money problems have prohibited me from paying Mr.Sanders back, so, as of now you and Courtney will go from being frenemies to official power couple," My dad finished. My heart immediately sank to my feet. There's no way I would be Courtney's boyfriend, let alone her fake one.

"There's no way in fresh hell I'm doing that," I say, walking away to grab a glass.

"Jaxon-" dad says.

"What? No offense Courtney's dad, but your daughter is an evil spawn straight from Satan's rectum," I say pouring some milk.

"Excuse me, boy?" Her dad says.

"Well, you don't have a choice. You and Courtney need to gain as much publicity as possible as everyone's "favorite rich power couple" up until the banquet. If people see a strong couple between the kids of some of the most powerful men in the business, raising attention for the Sanders&Son Fundraiser, they'll be sure to donate," Dad stated.

"Well, I don't care. I don't wanna stand for this. I should be allowed a choice. I have other interests, " I fight back.

"You don't mean that Cassidy girl, right?" She asks, getting up from her seat and walking over to me. I scoff at her assumption.

"Why have her when you can have me?" She asks. I roll my eyes at her arrogance.

"Because, fortunately, I'm still young enough to make rational decisions," I snap at her.

"Cassidy? Who's this Cassidy girl?" My father asks.

"No one you should be concerned about. She's just some girl. And I'm not interested-"

"Really? Because you seem dedicated to helping her in the hallways." Courtney says, cutting me off.

"It's called pity. You know, that thing I give you when you think you actually have a chance with me?" I spit back at her.

"She won't be a threat to our plan, will she?" Courtney's dad asks.

"No, she won't. I'll make sure of that," Courtney smiles, tracing her index finger down my bare chest. I grab her hand and stare at her.

"Don't touch me," I say.

"Ah ah ah, Jaxon. Cute power couple, remember?" She said fake pouting in the process. I throw her hand down at her side

"What if I refuse?" I ask.

"Simple. Your father goes bankrupt from trying to pay off his debt. His business will shribble up to little pieces of nothing," Courtney's dad replied. I can't let my dad's business crumble. This corporation is his everything, he loves that thing more than me. Not to mention, he might actually disown me if I willingly let his business fall to the ground. Overwhelmed by the pressure, I turn to walk back upstairs. The sound of the conversation continuing echoes behind my back.
