Cassidy
I walk up to my locker to see a white piece of paper taped to my lock. I cautiously open the note, fearing what it may read.
"Meet me in the main building's science lab after school."
Unsure of who wrote the message, and not wanting to find out, I crumble the paper and throw it to the floor.
I head to the café, hoping to see Lauren since I missed her this morning. She wasn't there, so I head to the lunch line. After grabbing my lunch, I head to my usual table and began looking around the crowded room. I only ate an apple and threw everything else away because it was horrible.
I wasn't looking for anything in particular, I guess I was really that bored. My eyes wander over to the overcrowded 'popular' table. I don't know if they're considered popular. I mean, everyone knows them but they're certainly not your stereotypical 'popular' table, in some ways at least.
There he was. Laughing, along side of Chris, at what I could only assume was some meaningless joke. His once dark brown eyes seemed to lighten with amusement. He really should smile or laugh more often, it suits him. His laughter died down as he glanced at me. Crap, he just caught me staring at him! My eyes became big, resembling those of a deer in headlights, as he smirked and shifted his gaze to someone else at the table. I tried to look away for my own sake, but those brown eyes were just so damn captivating.
My breathing slowed down as I saw Lauren making her way towards me with a McDonald's bag.
"Hey, sorry I'm late but I had a doctor's appointment. " she apologized. I nodded my head in an understanding manner.
"Fries?" She asked, motioning for me to take some.
"Gladly. " I replied with a smile before biting into a fry.
~~~~It was now the end of school, and I was making my way home. I was admiring the scenery before I got an idea. It's only 2:40 and Christina isn't expecting me till five. That being said, I have two hours and twenty minutes alone. I grin widely and bite my lip as I think of the perfect spot to go to.
Cutting through buildings, I run towards the hills. There's this place I always go to to think that's located on a rocky hill. It shows every bright light the city projects.
There's another hill viewpoint quite a while away from the city that I've never actually been to. I've heard it shows the whole city and the surrounding waters, and that it's beautiful at night. I want to go there one night but if Christina ever caught me sneaking out, I would cease to exist.
Pulling my headphones out of my backpack, I blast my music at near to full volume and get lost in the music that collides with the beautiful view before me. I sit on a nearby bench and admire the aesthetic feel of nature. My eyes soon get heavy from the amount of extreme relaxation I'm experiencing, and I doze off as the soft breeze blows against my cheeks.
I want to get up, but I haven't been this relaxed since dad left. It feels nice, not having to stress about any problems for once. Sleeping soon feels like a good idea as I rest my eyes close. Just for one hour. And like that, I'm out like a light.
~~~~I was awoken by the blasting sounds of police sirens running through the city. My breathing is heavy and my heart is fast, as I try to comprehend my surroundings. It's completely dark outside as I realize I fell asleep. That was definitely not the smartest decision...I looked at my phone and I can literally feel my heart drop.
15 missed calls.
32 texts.
9.25pm.
Holy crap. I was supposed to be home four hours ago! Oh God, I'm so fucked. I hurriedly grab my bag and run down the hill, careful of loose rocks.
I take a short way home, not wanting to be in more trouble than I already am. I run down the sidewalk as cars and motorcycles drive by in the busy streets. One motorcycle even honked at me but I didn't have time to try and figure out who it was. Right as I'm at the top of my street, I trip and fall on an uneven piece of concrete. I looked at my knee to see a new hole in my jeans and fresh blood. Oh, that's wonderful. I didn't bother crying, since I was in for a worse pain than a little scrape.
I dust myself off and stand on my front porch. Just before I enter, I ready myself for the hell of a ride I'm in for. I make sure to hide my headphones and phone deep within my backpack because she will surely take them if she sees it.
My mouth was dry, and my hands were shaking, as I unlocked the gates of hell and was greeted by Satan.
~~~~My eye throbbed from the beating it received last night. It wasn't even completely healed from the first beating and now, it is definitely going to take longer to heal.
I used the last bit of my makeup to cover it up but I'd soon need more if I had to keep this up. I threw the empty makeup bottles to some far corner of my room.
.
.I was now leaving math with Lauren, giggling every now and then whenever she brought up something so stupid it was funny.
"Do you want to sleepover this weekend? My mom and dad are visiting some potential investors for a business deal. " Lauren asked me.
"Uh, I'd have to talk with my mom. " I uneasily replied. Just the thought of her name and the word mom in the same sentence made me cringe. I knew Christina would never allow me to sleepover. "Too risky." It's always "Too risky."
"Oh ok. Just let me know. " she replied with a sad smile. I felt so bad that I couldn't be the friend she deserved. I've had to turn her down on multiple occasions whenever she suggested an activity, just because of my needs. I wanted to tell her the truth so bad but, due to previous experiences, I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Everyone I've told, only made things worse. And as much as I wanted to believe Lauren was different, I just couldn't. I was too damaged.
I waved Lauren off as I walked down the familiar hallways. There was so much clouding my brain right now, it was so hard to focus on one thing. I just need someone to tell me it'll be alright.
My thoughts were interrupted by a tap on my shoulder, causing me to flinch.
"Did you get my note?"
~~~~Hope you enjoyed this chapter! Who do you think wrote the note? Stay lovely babes xx.
