I set an alarm in my phone for Max's practice. If we were gonna be slick and make sure that he doesn't ruin my plan then it will have to be a secret for now. I'm just glad that I have Kiara by my side in all this. She really has come through for me.

We make our way down the street, an alarming calm hits my nerves. "We're almost there Drew, are you sure about this?" I nod my head. We drive up to the house and there's no cars. Not unusual I guess. She put the car in park at I stared at the house. "Something off, why are all the lights off?" Kiara stepped out and I followed. I watched as she pulled out a pocket knife and held it close to her. I gave her a wide eyed look. "If he's out we gotta be safe." She whispered.

I gave her a nod and she knocked on the door. Silence. "Maybe nobody's home?" She breathed out. I turned the knob and to my surprise it was unlocked. We slowly made our way into the house. I pushed back any memory I had of the last time I was here, the last time I saw my father. We looked around and it was eerily dark. Kiara reached for a light switch and as she flipped it a creepy sound blared through the house.

All I Want For Christmas started playing and the living room lit up. A Christmas tree lit up with presents around it. A train began chugging along the floor on tracks and my moms face and my face were on the tree. Along with my father's at the top of the tree. There was an X over my moms face and a circle around mine. After the first verse of All I Want For Christmas played the music turned instrumental and my dads voice blared through the house.

"You'll have to be quicker than that son. I have your mom, next I'll have you."

The song changed and everything shut off. Kiara looked at me with as shocked of an expression as I had. "Holy fuck he's a psycho." I only nodded. I walked forward into the room, my mouth open. I swallow hard noticing the lump in my throat.

"We have to look for clues. He wouldn't go through this much trouble for nothing." She nodded and came in. After turn everything upside down and dismantling everything from the tree to the train, we ended up with nothing. After about an hour we sat on the couch and just stared at the mess we made. "What now?" I reluctantly looked over at Kiara and gave her a tired look. "I guess we start from square one." Kiara's gaze moved forward.

I just stared at the ceiling. Remembering all the times mom must of looked up there, dazed and drunk. Confused, probably not recognizing the color or place. I thought of all the times my face was probably in this line of sight. Trying to wake up or telling her I'm heading out. It was all such a distant memory now. I was pulled out of my thoughts when Kiara gasped.

"What?!" I yelped. She ran over to the tree and shook a present. "The presents Drew. Open them." I slowly made my way over and crouched. We opened each present carefully and slowly. Some had some of my old things, some of moms. Our eyes landed on the last present. "Mine!" We both shouted at the same time.

I won the battle and Kiara pouted at me. "Remember why we're here, this isn't actually Christmas." She rolled her eyes at me. "Well hurry, open it open it." I unwrapped it and opened the box. A tape lay in there, no camera, no note. Just one lonely tape." I examined it and it didn't have any writing in it. But it was rewound all the way to the beginning. I glanced at Kiara. "Well play it!" I glared at her. "How I don't have a camcorder." Her brows furrowed.

"I think we have something at home that can play it." We both ran and made our way back to her car. As we buckled in I heard a faint ringing. I pulled out my phone and the alarm was going off. "We have to go to Max's practic-" Kiara pressed the gas pedal cutting me off. "But the tape! We have to play it!" I looked at her and back at my phone. The wallpaper of Max lay there. I didn't want him to find out or worse be upset that we didn't go.

"It will have to wait. Go to the open practice." Kiara huffed but did as I said. The car ride was silent but that was a rush. What if she'd been there? What if HE'D been there? What if it was just an empty house? No clues? I had never experienced this before with him. My father was growing increasingly more unstable and I wasn't sure how to handle it.

She pulled into the parking lot and we walked out onto the field. A few other people were there to watch. Max was out in the field practicing. The second he glanced our way I waved and I saw his big smile shine in our direction. Good he suspects nothing. Kiara leaned back and gawked at the other guys. "It's freezing, how do they manage all of this?" I shrug. "They train in it and they stay warm by being active." I hear her giggle. "Gotta get me one of them to keep me warm at night." I push her and she laughs back.

We watch as the boys on the field run different plays. Kiara and I shout at probably the wrong times, Max knowingly holds his hand up in protest of our cheering for the wrong side. Heck, not my fault. Every time he does anything I want to cheer him on. After they finish there last play Max runs over to me. Pulling off his helmet and letting his blonde sweat drenched hair fall out he leans down for a kiss.

Kiara punches his arm and he smiles at us. "Thanks for coming, it made me happy." We both smile back. "I'm gonna go get showered and then we can go. I'm kind of craving hot chocolate, anyone else?" We both scream in unison, "YES!" Max laughs and runs into the locker room. As I avert my gaze from him I notice a figure standing at the visitors side. I focus in.

"Kiara." I tug at her arm. She seems completely in trance from the other guys walking into the locker room. "Kiara." I tug again. She looks at me and then follows my gaze. "What?" She whispers out. There he stood, standing there. Taunting me. "I'm gonna call the-" I push her phone down. "No." He'll get away. He makes his way towards the field and I do the same.

"Drew you can't-" I turn around. "Watch me, have my back. Stay back though. I got this." She nods. When did I get so brave all of a sudden? After all of this Ray crap I guess I just don't feel like dealing with all of this anymore. I just wanted my mom. I walked up to him, in the middle of the field. He stood in front of me. Smirk and evil glare.

"Dean." He said. "Emery." I said. We both stood there at a stand still. Till he broke the silence. "Have you watched the tape?" I shake my head. Never once breaking his gaze. "What do you want?" His eyes looked up above me and then back down. "I just want my family back. My lovely wife and beautiful baby punching bag." I scowled at him. He started backing away. I took a step forward and he raised his finger.

"No, no, no." I stop walking, he pointed behind me. I watched as three guys, one being Max walking out of the locker room. Kiara ran to distract Max. I turned back around and he was gone. No where in sight. I looked and looking but nothing. I shook my head and ran back to the bleachers where they were at.

"We go to go?" Max asked. I nodded and held onto him. He gave me an affectionate tug. Although I wasn't holding him because I wanted affection, I held him because I was scared. I looked back at the field and saw nothing. I buried my face under his arm and Kiara gave me a sympathetic glance.

I took a deep breath for the first time, taking in the smell of Max's bodywash.
