Passing Annuals

I would bring you a daisy for the Spring

To awaken the warmth that eases Winter's pain

Behold growing greens and cheery songs birds sing

With dreams of hope and dances in the rain

I'd give you a sunflower, for Summer's long days

Dauntless adventures as the sun lingers to night

Freedom, abundance of joy among boquets

And promise's future, that radiate so bright

I'd bring you chrysanthemums, a gift for Fall

When colored leaves float in cool breezy air

And you feel anticipation of change for all

A time to give thanks, reflect, and prepare

I'd give you a blue rose for the Winter so cold

Unyielding nights, twinkling lights, stars, and snow

Time slows, all becomes tired, dark sleep takes hold

And the warmth of your hearth makes the soul glow

The year fades away to depart

Leaving only ink for your memoirs

The cycle renews and in your heart

Are all your past and future flowers
