ten: three rules

next day

I observed as more of our kinds lined up in front of the kingdom, signing their names off in hopes to fight in the war. They ranged from women to men, young to adults all of whom shared the same determination and experiences. They too lost people in the previous war, yet they stood in honour of them and is willing to avenge and fight for their people. I sighed looking down from the balcony as I rested my hands on the rails. Scanning each one of them, before slowly directing my head onto the skies the light shining on me.

"Excuse me, Your Majesty?" I heard a man's voice behind me turning back to see Maximus now dressed in his armour suit. "It is time" He simply said before making a way for me. Nodding I walked ahead and straight to the battle room.

Phase 1

Athena sighed clearly remembering the phases of war, after all we also were once standing as the people before me. They gathered and talked against each other and only quieted once I entered the room. They all slightly shook in my intimidating presence, eyes lowered down bowing in unison. "Your Majesty!" They greeted before remaining as they were. I was sure none of them expected me to train this room compared to the others yet they stood tall and determined.

I walked down the steps, wearing my black loose pants and white blouse as I rested my hand behind my back, "As you may know, Phase 1 determines how you can use your head in the battle" I walked around as they made way for me, all eyes on me before I continued "It does not focus on strength. You will be fighting in your human form, you will not use your abilities as a werewolf. And if I sense someone in this room using their special abilities. Two things, you will leave this room and you may no longer have the chance to become use of anything in this kingdom" I stared at their eyes, "Make use of those words however you want" I walked back next to Maximus and gestured to him.

"Everyone, you shall pair with someone in this room. That includes me and your Queen!" Maximus ordered. I watched as everyone rushed to find a partner knowing that going against us is the last thing they wanted. In an instant, there were two people remaining that tried to pair with each other. "No don't pair up, each of you will go against us" Maximus pointed at them as they sighed and looked down.

I approached the young girl that looked familiar to me "Your name?" She looked taken back before stuttering her name "Andrea, Your Majesty" She bowed clumsily as she lost her balance. I quickly grabbed hold of her before she fell and helped her regain her balance. She chuckled awkwardly, "I apologise Your Highness" I only shook my head before we walked into the corner enough space to battle. As I was about to draw my sword, but she made no move to draw hers. I scrunched my face both in confusion and irritation. "Why are you not drawing your sword?" I thundered which made her step  back with eyes wide open and after awhile she gathered herself and breathed out "My Queen, you are simply the strongest most intelligent in the whole kingdom, and I do not stand a chance" She whispered quietly. I breathed out and withdrew my sword back. Taking a step forward and lifting her chin to look at me, looking at her sternly. Our faces a few inch from each others.

"If you know your opponent is weaker than you, would you fight?" I asked before releasing her chin and standing front of her, she nodded her head hesitantly, "And if you know your opponent is stronger than you, would you fight?" I asked again watching as she slowly realised her mistake as she shook her head.  "Then tell me why you are standing in front of me right now!" I raised my voice making some of the people stop and look in our direction. the clashing of swords stopped momentarily. I kept my eyes on Andrea continuing "If you had already made up you mind before the battle even begins, then you are not meant for the war" My jaw tightened before closing my eyes and opening them once again. "Everyone get back to your battle!" I shouted making them obey immediately.
