ch4: Fateful Encounters (A/N: is that Shōjo manga-like or what!)

At home, the girls made some toast, and buttered/jammed the food and ate. They then followed the written note with instructions on where to find their bikes (courtesy of Cynthia). The girls found them around the side of the house. They wheeled them out and rode towards the forest.

Leaf, once spotting the forest, began to pedal slightly faster, calling out behind her about how she was going to do some off-road biking. The others "ok-ed" as she rode off.

"What should we do?" May wondered.

"I think I'll add some data to my Pokédex." Dawn replied.

"And I think I'll stay away from any bugs." Misty shuddered.

"Then I'll go with you." the brunette one decided.

"Yahoo!" Leaf shouted as her bike leapt off a small hill and over a fallen log. The wind whipping against her face; her hair flying out behind her; knowing her Venusaur was enjoying wandering around freely... this was her definition of fun! Leaf continued to cheer as she burst through a clearing on her bike. She skirted around a tree and narrowly avoided a bramble bush.

A yell of joy was cut short when she launched off a rock. It wasn't as though there was a ravine that she would fall into, but there was a random boy, perhaps a little older than her, who was stood in the way.

"Look out!" she screamed. The auburn-haired boy lazily rolled his head around to see her... just in time to have her bike's front wheel collide with his face. Time seemed to hold still as his stiff arms raised slightly and made an odd shape (imagine a rectangle without a bottom), and with one leg was off the ground, like in anime. Then time caught up again as the boy was knocked to the floor and blood spurted from his nose. Leaf had twisted the handlebars midflight in an attempt to throw her bike off course, but all it did now was push her bike away from her, which sent her after the boy. Wow, was she humiliated. Imagine - a spy who can't land on their feet...

A male "ooph!" was heard when Leaf landed on him, and she took a moment to snap out of her stupor and regain her bearings. When she did, she sat up immediately and scrambled off him.

"Omigod! I'm soo sorry! Are you ok? Did I break anything?" Leaf babbled.

The boy sat up, rocking like an upset child would and clutching his nose.

"Do you have a mirror?" he asked through a pinched nose

Leaf swiftly pulled out a compact mirror. When she held it in front of his face, he froze. Then he wailed:

"My face! My beautiful face!"

Leaf blinked. Then again. Then once more. Then she broke out into guffaws.
