~~~Willow groaned as her alarm screeched jerking her from her quaint sleep. She pulled her blanket over her head to block out the noise, but it didn't help at all.
She peeked open one of her eyes staring at her alarm clock. Willow finally threw her feet over her bed onto the floor.
"Ugh, I hate Alarm clocks." She muttered to herself as she grabbed her signature hoodie.
The baggy grey hoodie had the words 'Niagara Falls' embroidered on. A small smile gripped her lips as the memory of the rushing falls.
She almost didn't get the hoodie until someone offered her it for free in trade of help promoting their business.
It did not take long before she had reached the downstairs of her home, the well known smell of spices and vanilla wafted through the air. With her parents already out for work, she plopped some bread into the toaster and grabbed butter from their fridge.
Grabbing her phone, she scrolled through recent news until she found something that caught her eye: LOCAL MAN DIES WITHOUT A SOULMATE!
This peaked the sixteen year olds interest, another person wasn't consumed by soulmate fever that seemed to encapsulate the whole world.
She continued reading the article and it further explained how this man had decided that soulmates were not something he was interested in and he died alone.
Being the only child in his family, like most were, their legacy had ceased to exist.
Your legacy was the thing kept your genes going, all the time built into it can be for nothing if someone had decided to not take on a soulmate.
Willow knew it was more of a responsibility over a want. Her family was not important anyway, they had no political status, no huge net worth, and no fame.
She was open to the idea of love, but love where she knew someone, not a random stranger off of the street.
Then a thought hit her like lightning: this article will most likely weed its way into the news. When her mother sees this, she won't think it's a game anymore. She will try to force her into finding a soulmate to keep their family legacy going.
A loud ring suddenly interrupted her thought train. She turned her head towards the toaster where her (now almost black,) toasted bread sat.
Toast's done, she thought to herself. Getting up with a sigh, she took a plate and put the toast on her plate and took a bite.
The burnt taste took up a residence in her mouth and twisted her face in disdain.
Swallowing that bit of toast, she proceeded to eat the last of it. Letting out another heavy sigh, she grabbed her bag and walked out the door preparing for the havoc known as school.
