Effie walks us silently to the building where we will be held captive for the next three days. I nod my head appreciatively as we enter a room plush with black pillows, black drapes. The red fabricated walls and the muddled carpet seemed to be as far from Katniss' comfort colors as possible. I smirk. She was the Mockingjay after all, but she doesn't seem to understand. I needed to find Plutarch and Finnick as soon as possible. "Aren't these comfy!" Effie's crystal voice rings out past gloomy chandeliers. Katniss looks straight ahead, Peeta's hand still on her back. I groan silently, he was not going to leave her side easily.. Walking over to the nearest Avox, I request a drink. She brings it quickly, and turns to leave. "Uhh, uh." I stop her with a small motion of my hand. I down the drink, and hand it back. "Another?" She glares at me, but goes. I perch at the edge of my seat. I just want to get out of here.
Sundown. Roof. West corner.
The note was very specific. I glance around nervously. Avoxes were most likely going to be around, and the cameras.. I stand up and walk towards the door, leaving the apartment. I have to look normal, I have to look normal. I tell myself.
I walk silently to the elevator at press the button at the top. I don't glance around, I know there is a camera at the end of each hall and in the corner of the elevator. I walk out onto the roof, following my shadow's footsteps. Plutarch, standing in a cheery pink suit, advances towards me. With an incline of his head he speaks. "Haymitch." "Plutarch." I respond.
He takes a breath and begins to recite our plan. I don't make it back to the apartment for several hours, but I don't think anyone noticed. I slip into my bed noiselessly, and sleep.
I wake with a jolt, I'm being attacked!! I pin my attacker against the wall, my knife to his throat in seconds. My blurred eyes open a fraction wider and I realize it's just an avox. I release him, and he scurries away, rushing out the door. Katniss pushes past him, curious, but too intent to question him.
"Haymitch where the hell were you last night?" "I didn't want to sleep, so I was up on the roof, stargazing." My sarcasm makes it look as if I slapped her, and she responds quietly. "Peeta wants to talk strategy.. He feels it would be beneficial to stay together. . Despite. ."
".. Us being enemies? Katniss. You know that's not reality."
"Only one can come out Haymitch. They know that now. . They'll never make that mistake again." She looks deep into my eyes, and I suddenly understand. She's worried for Peeta.. But not as she should be. She's not in love with Peeta.. Just his well being.
"Sweetheart," I step closer to her, "I'll talk to him. And it will be fine." Her eyes were full of doubts.
