Emery Blake, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, perused the worn spines of the books in the school library. There wasn’t a particular book she was searching for to help her complete a project. She was just searching for the book.
Whenever Emery went to the library, she always found herself overwhelmed by the options so she would scrutinize the backs of books for hours until she found a book that she felt like she absolutely had to read.
Despite the annoying stereotypes, Emery was smart. She was really smart, blonde hair or no blonde hair. Cheerleading uniform or no Cheerleading uniform.
This not particularly noteworthy Friday afternoon, Emery was simply searching for a great read.
Her fingers skimmed over the spines as she walked past shelf after shelf. She picked up a book, read the back, pondered it, put it back. This process was repeated several times until she found it. The book she would be reading for the next one or two days.
After scanning the barcode of the novel and checking it out, Emery shoved it into her book bag. Tying her long blonde locks into a ponytail, she gathered her things and headed toward the door.
The librarian was already long gone. She never stayed long on Fridays, but she knew Emery well enough that she trusted she wouldn't harm or steal any books.
Emery’s shiny ponytail swayed as she marched toward the main exit doors. Then she remembered something she left in her locker.
Just one more pit stop and then I'll head home…

This chapter was shorter than short but the next one (which I already have done) is longer.
I'm debating on whether to publish it today or to wait till Friday.
What did you think of Emery?
