Young Love

Emma looked up nervously at the school building.

The five year old girl looked up at her mother. "Do I have to go?" She asked.

"Yes, Emma you have to go to school. It's your first day of Kindergarten." Her mom replied.

"Okay..." The girl sighed. She ran her fingers through her wavy, brown hair which had a clip in purple streak.

She dusted off her jeans and continued on.

They walked into the building. Emma made her way towards her classroom, still very anxious. She fidgeted with the hem of her t-shirt.

The girl looked to her mom again. The woman gave her a reassuring look and gestured for her to go in.

Emma walked in and looked around the room. She tried to find a place to sit.

She wandered around asking everyone if a seat was taken. All had turned her down.

She made her way towards the table near the rug that was empty. She sat down and laid her head on her purple backpack.

A few minutes later she was interrupted by someone nudging her shoulder.

She looked up to see a girl in pink overalls with a blue shirt. Her hair was long, blonde and pulled up into pig tails.

"Hi! Can I sit here?!" She asked excitedly.

Emma nodded and put her backpack on the floor.

"Thanks!" She sat down and turned towards Emma. "I'm Alyssa! What's your name?"

"I'm E-Emma." She stammered.

Alyssa smiled. "Hi, Emma! I like you already! Do you wanna be friends?!" She asked.

Emma's eyes widened and her cheeks flushed slightly. She really liked this girl for some reason.

"S-Sure!" She smiled slightly.

Alyssa smiled wide. "Yay! New friends!" She giggled.

Emma nodded. "New friends." She smiled.

"Ok class get in your seats and settle down." The teacher said.

Alyssa turned to face the front of the room.

Emma kept looking at her. She smiled and turned as well.

She could tell Alyssa and her were gonna be great friends.

Maybe school wasn't so scary after all.
