School seemed to be uncharacteristically boring today. Especially, since I couldn't get it out of my head that a little church girl just blew me off. I don't even know why I even bothered with her. She wasn't anything special, not like the girl sitting across from me batting her overly fake eyelashes at me each time I look up from my desk. I mean that girl has everything: Long black hair that fell down her back in waves, a dress that was probably three sizes too small and the perfect body to fill it out, beautiful face, and long legs, everything that mattered in a girl. The only problem I could find with her was that she didn't have those eyes, big green, endless, beautiful eyes that I could get lost in for hours. That's what that little church girl had, and that's what made Mrs. Long legs over there seem so lame and boring. Maybe it wasn't just that, maybe it just started out as that. But she just rejected me, blew me off, threw at me those witty comments that Long Legs couldn't come up with if she cheated off the wittiest kid in the school for 'em, and maybe it was just the fact that she was different and something or someone new that kept drawing me back to her. Whatever it was though, I couldn't get her out of my head.

"Dude, where you at?" One of my best friends, Kyle, asked me. "Stella's been trying to get your attention for the past half hour and you haven't budged."

"Yeah." I said glancing at Long Legs completely uninterested. "Just tired that's all." I lied.

"Yeah? Long night?" He asked.

"Not really. Just couldn't sleep. So, what are your plans today? Doin anything cool after school?" I asked mostly just trying to change the subject and get my mind off the beautiful eyed church girl that ditched me.

"Nah, I gotta work and then my mom came home last night so I gotta be home." He said. His mom had been battling cancer for her nearly her whole life..Its what's kept him so grounded, and made us perfect friends. When I was wild and crazy, going to parties and drinking every night, he was always the one picking me up after Id had too many.

"Yeah, well you want me to come over after practice? Help out some?" I asked him.

"Nah, man it's alright. Seems like Stella has plans for you guys tonight." He laughed and I glanced up at Long Legs who smiled back at me playfully. I just smiled back really not interested.

"It's cool. It'll be fun. I'll be there." I said just as the bell rang to dismiss class.

"Alright, man, well, I'll see you later." He fist bumped me and headed out of class. I got up out of my seat and started heading for the door just as Stella came sauntering up in front of me. Her beautiful black hair swayed behind her and she smiled the biggest flirtatious smile she could probably muster.

"Hey, Mason." She flirted.

"What's up?" I replied still walking.

"Nothing really, ready to get out of here." She said easily.

"Yeah."

"So, you going to Ashley's party tonight? I've got a lot of homework to catch up on so I'm not sure, but I thought... maybe if you're going..." She paused and turned to face me, putting her hands on my chest and smiling up at me. "Well, I thought maybe I could make an exception."

I smiled down at her and grabbed her hand and started walking. It wasn't unusual for me to hold hands with the girls, they seemed to all think it was something special, but to me it was just like kissing another girl or hanging out with a girl, nothing new, nothing special, just another body of flesh to me.

"I don't know, I'll see." I answered her about the party as we walked down the hall hand in hand. I knew people were watching, and I knew Stella was basking in the attention. Some people were probably wondering if we were a couple, most probably knew better than Stella that it meant nothing.
