You're My Friend

You're my friend,

And you know that.

I've told you that countless times.

You're a great friend, even my best friend.

I'm always there for you,

and you for me.

I've helped you with your problems;

Like that time I explained to the teacher,

that you were only texting your mom.

And in turn you've helped me with mine,

Like when I couldn't buy lunch,

And you paid for my fries.

We joke around, we hang out

We share memories

Like all the embarrassing times in the scouts,

We share advice,

Like when I told you to get over your ex, because

she just was not into you.

We do things that friends do.

Because that's what we are,

Friends.

I appreciate the compliments, and

the gestures but let's get serious.

You know my feet don't hurt, and I have not

been running through your mind all day.

And despite my love for Batman,

I don't need an engagement ring with a bat symbol.

So now I must say no again, and again.

Because once more I say,

You are just my friend.

So excuse me if you think I'm being rude,

I'm trying very hard not to be,

But you've always said you admire my honesty.

So here it is,

If I believed in a friend zone,

You'd be there.
