It Wasn't A Date

You bought the tickets because I was running late.

You bought the popcorn, and some candy too, but

I didn’t dare touch it.

I had my own money.

I said I would pay you back.

You declined saying it’s for my birthday.

That does not make this a date.

There are plenty of seats, just pick one.

No, I do not want to sit in the back,

squished in a corner.

Towards the front we go.

There’s an arm rest for a reason,

Keep it down, and don’t even think about

yawning and stretching.

Keep your limbs on your own side, and I’ll stick to mine.

A movie is meant to be watched.

So stop talking to me!

If I wanted to talk, we would have gone for some coffee.

The movie is over and I walk to my car.

There was no kiss goodnight,

No hug goodbye, 

Barely a wave of my hand,

Because I realized what you thought this was.

And it was so not a date.
