Maiko's P.O.V.
It's mid-late afternoon, and we are back at the old schoolhouse. Parked in front of the old, wooden building is a large, black cargo van. Mystery boy (I still call Kazuya that) opens the trunk and inside is several different pieces equipment. Cameras, monitors, boxes of portable shelves, and many types of wires and electrical cords. He grabbed what looks like a camera stand and a file box filled with wires and cords. Mai grabbed another box of cords and wires I took two boxes; one with cords and wires and the other with the shelve parts in it.
As we continued to the schoolhouse Mystery boy explained "Your principal contacted us a week ago. He said the problem was that they had to continually run damage control for the haunting rumors surrounding the schoolhouse. When I checked the records I was able to confirm that up until when the school was still being used eighteen years ago, the schoolhouse would have at least one or two deaths a year, every year. It's also true that construction crews were demolishing the east side of the building when there was an accident where the roof collapsed prematurely. No workers died, but five were injured. It was abruptly blamed on human error. Construction ended with only a third of the demolition work finished.
A teacher did, in fact, commit suicide in the building. But that was explained by the suicide note the teacher left. The incident with the truck last year was a drunk driving accident. No doubt with the rumors about ghosts and curses going around played a part in the ending of the demolition. That was the last time construction was ever done to the old schoolhouse. Based on my research, the existence of paranormal activity is nothing more than fiction. For a place this active, every occurrence has a reasonable explanation."
Entering a classroom on the second floor I look around and see that the room was pretty much empty except a few tables set around the room. One in the back, one by the window on the left side of the room, and the other in the center of the room. "We'll set up base here." Mystery boy said. "Base?" Mai asks him. I place the boxes of selves and cords on the center table. I noticed there are no chairs so I left to find some. 'I am going to find some chairs. I'll be right back.' I mind linked Mai. She turned to face me and nodded.
Mai's P.O.V.
After Maiko left I turned back to Kazuya. "Precisely. We'll conduct all our operations from this room. Where is she going?" Kazuya asks. "Oh. Yeah. Of coarse. I guess I'm still learning. Maiko left to get some chairs." I say. He looks at me with a weird expression then turned to leave. "Where are you going?" Kazuya turned his head just before he rounded out the door. "Start setting up those shelves. I'm going to get the rest of the equipment." He said. Before I could protest he left.
After a few minutes Maiko returns with a few chairs. "Where did Mystery boy go?" Maiko placed the chairs around the center table. "He left to get the rest of the equipment. We are to set up the shelves." "At least he has one good quality about him. Some of that equipment weighs almost one-hundred pounds." "I guess. You still think he's an asshole though don't you?" "Yep. But I know why." "Did you read his mind?" "I did. I know everything about him, but some of it he should tell you himself. It's not my place to tell. But I can tell you that he's dense when it comes to the feelings of others and his own. And he has a brother. From what I gather his brother will come tomorrow."
(Sorry but I like Gene so I'd rather he be alive than dead)
"Really? Even though he's such a narcissist? Hey! I just thought of something. We can call him Naru. As in Naru the Narcissist." "Hahahaha. That's a good idea. He'll hate it. I think we should call his brother Gene." "Why?" "Because their twins and share the same genes even though his brother is so nice and has good manners. While Naru is a total ass." We laugh and decide to call them by their new names tomorrow when Gene comes. At least he's suppose to from what Maiko gathered from Naru's thoughts.
After setting everything up I was looking at the strange high-tech cameras. "What are these used for?" I ask. Maiko took a chair from where she set it at the center table to the table in the back of the room, and is napping away. Naru has been trying to wake her but to no avail. "You wont be able to wake her up. She's a deep sleeper. She only wakes up when she feels like it. Or when she sneezes." I tell him after he tries to wake her for the third time. He sighs. Just then a guy came in that looks identical to Naru. 'That must be his twin. I thought he wasn't supposed to come until tomorrow.'
I look back and forth between the two. "What are you doing here?" Naru asks coldly. "What? Can I not come visit my brother?" Gene says. "Um... Who are you?" I ask trying to calm the tension. "Oh. I'm sorry. I'll introduce myself, I'm Kazuto Shibuya. I'm Kazuya's twin brother." Gene says with a REAL smile on his face. "Nice to meet you. I'm Mai Taniyama and this sleeping girl here is my older sister Maiko." I say pointing to my sister. He looks over at her. I'm not sure but I thought I saw a little pink on his cheeks.
I brush it off as my imagination. I turn to my sleeping sister. I pull out a cherry blossom I picked this morning while walking to school. "I'm sorry about this." I say to her and hold the flower to her nose. *AH-AH-AHCHOO!* Maiko sneezes. 'She sneezes like a cat.' I think to myself. I giggle at how cute her sneezes are. She's usually so cold to others, but she has a cute sneeze, laugh, and she looks like a helpless child when she sleeps. If it weren't for her cold attitude and pride she would be swarmed by guys.
'I wish she would lighten up.' I thought. 'I heard that.' Maiko says in my mind. I get out of my thoughts and look to see Maiko awake. She sits up and stretches. "Finally, your awake. Get going, we're done for today. I'll see you tomorrow." Naru says coldly. "Tomorrow? You mean.....?" I say. "You'll be working for me until this case is solved. Maiko, I'm assigning you to my brother." Maiko yawns covering her mouth with her hand. She nods. We leave to go home.
After walking out we run into Keiko and Michiru. "Mai? Maiko? Have you two been here all night?" Michiru asks shining a flashlight at us. We walk away from the old schoolhouse. We stop at a near by bench down the street. We explain everything that had happened. "Paranormal research? So that's what you two were doing?" Keiko asks. "Yeah." Maiko says. "I can't believe we have to work for him." I say angrily.
"Mai, Maiko. Do you think you can introduce me to Kazuya. I think I can help." Kuroda says appearing out of nowhere. "I'm not sure. He's the most stuck up, self absorbed, narcissist we've ever met." Maiko says to Kuroda. "Besides he's a professional and...." I say only to be interrupted by Kuroda. "Well I'm by no means an amateur!"
After a few seconds Michiru grabbed Maiko's hand and Keiko grabbed mine and they dragged us away from that awkward situation. "I can't believe her! She's been like that since middle school." Keiko says annoyed. "You had some of the same classes as her didn't you Keiko?" Michiru asks. "Yeah. I don't know why she does that though." "I know. It's because she's already fallen madly in love with Kazuya." Micheru says. I turn around in the direction where we left Kuroda. "Ew!" Keiko says. I turn back around. Maiko and I leave to go back to our two bedroom and two bath apartment.
