I chose this song because this whole story should never had made sense. But it did, and you guys love it. Thank you so much for all of your support. Another oldie but goodie. Oldie being from the 80's this time.
It was a dream like all of the others. But wait. Something was different in this one. She could feel herself frown. She just wanted to sleep. She was so very tired. In the days since the assassin had blown up their home so much had happened. First, seeing Haldor's body being carried out of their home after being shot in the chest. Then seeing the security men begin chest compression's. Seeing the home that he had built for them to live in destroyed had devastated her.
Evidently, the bullet had entered into Haldor's chest and not his heart. However, it had nicked it. This had created a dangerous situation. It had left him bleeding into his chest cavity, putting pressure on his heart and lungs, making it difficult for either to work. He was even now in a coma, while his body healed. The doctor couldn't and wouldn't say if he would ever come out of it. He simply lay there in the hospital bed with wires and tubes hooked up to him. His face gained more color every day. When he had first come out of surgery, he had been a sickly grey color, looking close to death. The doctor had stated that the next two days were critical to his survival.
That was three weeks ago. After the doctor had stated at two weeks they could do no more for him, talk of a private facility began. She knew he would do it for her. She was going to give it one more week before she had Haldor moved to a private, secure facility in Oslo. She had also started clean-up on their home and restoration would begin shortly. It would be time consuming and expensive, but this is the place they both belonged.
So, realizing that she was awake for the day, Erika got up, showered and grabbed an apple and ran out the door to go to the hospital.
It was funny, she thought upon reflection. This was a dream that she had never had before. They were in their bedroom, and it was once again covered in animal furs like a traditional medieval bed. The difference this time is that she and Haldor were both in it, and laying between them was a wee babe. No more than a month old. It had fire red hair like her, but had his father's facial features. They were laughing and taking quietly so as not to wake the wee one.
Erika felt tears on her cheeks as she entered the hospital. She had never been able to give her husband a child. The hormone imbalance in her body had not allowed it. So, she knew that she had been given a glimpse of what might be. As Erika exited the elevator to go to her husband's room she noticed doctor's and nurses running through the hall. Her heart stopped when she realized what room they were entering. Just then she heard a familiar roar and rushed forward to get to her husband.
As Erika entered Haldor's room, several nurses were trying to hold him down. "Please, Mr. Landvik. You've only just woke from a three week long coma. You could do a great deal of damage to your self if you don't take it easy the first 24 hours."
"Woman, get off of me and get out of my way. I need to use the toilet, not that ridiculous thing you gave me. First, you try to kill me puling tubes and wires out of my body in places I don't want to think about. Then you send in some man to give me a "bath." Next, you tell me I can't get up. Woman, you are as daft as you look. I'm getting up from this bed. Now you can help me or you can stand back and watch. But, either way, it's going to happen!" Haldor roared.
By the time she had taken in everything, tears were flowing down her face unchecked. Tears of happiness and joy. Her husband was alive and, obviously, well. "Still the same bad patient I see." She stated quietly.
She didn't know how, but he heard her. Turning his head quickly to stare at her, he opened one arm to her and she ran into it. Placing her head on his shoulder, she cried. She really cried. She cried tears of anger, of sorrow, of fear. But, most of all, she cried tears of relief.
Haldor simple held Erika in his arms as she cried. When she was done he pulled her into his lap and she nuzzled her head into his neck. "Easy, Little Wolf. It'll take more than that to take me from you. This is the last time we will ever have to deal with this again. We can actually start our lives over." Neither on was paying attention while the doctors and nurse silently filtered out of the room to give the couple some privacy.
Erika leaned back and looked at him with an expression that he couldn't even begin to describe."Let's get married. The house is already being rebuilt, and should be finished in a couple of months. You used to say you wanted to take me somewhere warm. Well, now's your chance. Let's get married and go on a honeymoon somewhere warm."
Erika was practically dancing in his lap. Haldor laughed. His little wolf was still full of life, Even after so many bad things happening. She constantly surprised him.
"Very well, love. If that's what you want......What do mean the house is being rebuilt?"
"After we realized that you were going to pull through, Ragnar and I got together and talked to the banker. Very clever of you to add my name to your accounts, by the way. Sneaky, too. Anyway, we lined up everything we needed to clear the debris and start to rebuild. They finished clearing the land last week. By the way, the foundation is still there. It is indeed strong, love. Anyway, this week they are working on the framing of our home, then the actual building will begin." Erika smirked at her husband's astonished look.
