Criteria for judging: (been altered slightly)

No judgement on covers. It's all about the writing.

Read the chapter(s) allocated for each book and judge it on the criteria below. (Chapter amounts dependent on entries).

• Grammar - 5 points
Spelling/punctuation/syntax/juxtaposition/sentence types/sentence starters.
1: Absolutely no grammar used of any kind. Starts with same handful of words. Basic sentences. Work doesn't flow.
2: Paragraphs being used. Compound and simple sentences used. More mistakes than paragraphs. Starts to flow.
3: Paragraphs used correctly. Mistakes, one every paragraph. Only get lost a little with their flow.
4: Mistakes/incorrect use happen about a handful of the time throughout work. Range of sentence types. Sentence starters ranged.
5: Perfect, or the very minor odd mistake/incorrect use. Range of sentence types. Range of sentence starters.

• Uniqueness of plot - 5 points
Stand out from the normality of the genre.
1: Follows the same storyline as others.
2: Differs slightly from the typical.
3: Crosses over the line of both originality and similarities.
4: Only a few similarities to the typical story of the genre.
5: Completely differs in every aspect.

• Character building - 5 points
Clear development on the characters.
1: Same all the way through.
2: Jumpy.
3: Some form of character building in chunks at points.
4: A few slip ups on character discovery.
5: Character built all the way through.

• Writing style - 5 points
Unique and flows. Individuality and not confusing.
1: Basic.
2: Slightly different to basic layout.
3: Not much cohesion with flow. Individual voice being shown.
4: Inventive. Slightly confusing.
5: Completely individual voice. Easy to follow.

• Engagement - 5 points
Does it keep you entertained and interested in the story.
1: Not at all.
2: Slightly.
3: In parts/bursts.
4: Very. Nail biting.
5: Completely/All the way through.

Each judge gets to place an honourable mention of whomever they please within their genre.
