It was getting closer, Azuryn knew it. Her birthday, her sixteenth to be precise, the age when young Guardian Dragons like her, were to choose a Lionheart Fae to be their companion. Azuryn heard a tapping at her window, with a sigh of relief she opened the window and Storm her Peregrine Falcon flew in, carrying the letter she had been anticipating. It was from her friend Alexandra. As she led the letter, she felt somewhat daunted and relieved. They would have twelve Lionheart Fae start their first year at The Forest's Secret Academy for the Magical and Supernatural. Now Ryn and the other Guardian Dragons like her friend Alexandra would be able to find a Lionheart Fae.
There were only two issues Azuryn could see in finding her Lionheart Fae. The first would be having to fight the others for a Lionheart Fae, however that was something Ryn looked forward to, as most Guardian Dragons love to challenge and fight each other. The second issue was the one that worried Ryn, actually having to ask the Lionheart Fae to be her companion. The relationship between Lionheart Fae and Guardian Dragon, was a platonic one. They were close friends with their relationship bordering on something sibling-like. Usually Guardian Dragons could sense the Lionheart that was meant to be their companion. However, it was nerve-wracking for Azuryn as she was afraid of being rejected by her chosen Lionheart Fae. What if they didn't like her, and were not interested on being friends? Those were thoughts that raced through Ryn's head.
It was then that Ryn remembered her other friend Julia, who had chosen her Lionheart Fae a year earlier. Ryn could ask her for advice. Ryn felt a little better about her upcoming decision. Julia was like the older sister of Guardian Dragons in their class, the one that others looked up to and revered. Not only that, she was kind and went out of her way to help the others, Ryn was positive that with Julia's help things would go by smoothly.
It was then that Ryn remembered something, she looked back at the letter and let out a gasp. "Also, I thought you would want to be among the first to know that Julia's Lionheart Fae Peredote, and her sisters are going to be in the group of twelve that are coming to our school." Alexandra had written. The triplets. She was going to see them again. Ryn felt like dancing, it had been so long since she had seen her childhood friends. They had first met when Ryn was eight years old, and the triplets were seven. It was four years of happiness, until she came. Ryn shuddered at the memory of the monster whose appearance caused the triplets parents, to send the triplets away to live with their grandparents. It had been years and still Ryn missed them every day, and had wondered if she would ever see them again. Now they were coming to The Forest's Secret, and Ryn finally knew that she had chosen her Lionheart Fae, Garnet, the youngest triplet, and the closest thing Ryn had ever had to a younger sister.
