My body ached and a strong headache took

over when I was dragged out of that dark

room. The light burned my eyes and my

bones felt painful beneath my pale skin.

When I was brought back to my room, a

new nurse took the opportunity to make

fun of my white hair. She said things like,

“What are you, an old woman?” And “Looks

like you have ashes from a fire on your

head.”

It hurt to be made fun of, and I began to see

myself differently. The ugly. The evil. The

vile. That's all I am now.
