By the time me and Silver finished exchanging stories it was past ten. She had called her mom to ask if she could spend the night. Though hesitant, her mom had agreed. Silver didnt really need to ask her mom to bring her stuff. She had practically a wardrobe of her own over here.
Silver had changed into an oversized t-shirt and was glued to her iPhone texting Mike. Those two had been at it for awhile and i just found it cute how red Silver's cheeks turned each time she read a message from Mike. Im hugging the stuffed panda Vic won me and my stomach fills with butterflies as I remember how we held hands and everything at the beach..
"Im hungry." Says Silver slapping my leg. I roll my eyes and reach for my phone. "Pizza?" Silver's eyes get round with excitement and she nods. "Yesss pleaseeee." I laugh and open the dresser next to my bed, where I usually kept my money. My hand finds the crumpled dollar bills and I spread them out counting. Eighteen dollars... "Fuck" I muttered under my breath. This meant I had to borrow some money from my dad. Hopefully he wasnt in too shitty of a mood. "I'll be right back Silver" I say sliding out the door.
I walk down the hall to my dad's room and knock on the door. "Come in" He grunts. He's laying in only a undershirt and plaid boxers. His face doesnt look like he's shaven in awhile and his reading glasses are balanced on the top of his bald head. A open bottle of whiskey is in his hand and his eyes are focused on a baseball game on Tv. "Dad I need some extra money to order a pizza" I say real fast. He slides his hand into a jar on the nightstand which is crammed with bills. He pulls his hand out and waves two hundreds in my face without checking to see how much it is. I take the money and head out the door glancing over at him over my shoulder as I leave. He could be an okay dad when he wasnt drunk. He didnt hit me unless he was. But nowadays he was almost always drunk. He wasnt always like that though. He used to go to work, he didnt used to gamble, he didnt use to drink, all this was a month or so before school started....before my mom left us on my birthday...' I feel tears prick at the back of my eyes and I hurry back to my room.
Silver is laying across the bed on her stomach. "Great your back. Lets order some food now!" I roll my eyes playfully and dial the number for Dominoes Pizza. After making a order of two large pizzas and a liter of coke and sprite, I hang up the phone.
The pizza gets here in about thirty minutes. Soon, me and Silver are eating, talking, being silly. My phone beeps and I look at it. "OHMYGOD SILVER ITS A FACETIME REQUEST FROM VIC!!" Silver leans over the phone and squeals. "Answer it!!" I run over to my dresser and finger comb my hair. Im in a baggy pajama shirt. Well he was facetiming me at almost one in the morning. What would he expect. I quickly cover my lips in lipgloss then wipe it off and apply chapstick. That seemed more casual. I flop onto the bed and Silver laughs. "Shhhh" I answer the facetime call and Vics face fills my phone screen. "Heyyy." He smiles.
"Vic why in the hell are you facetiming me so late" I ask laughing. He laughs too.
"Well, I wrote this new peice on my guitar and I couldnt wait till tomorrow to show you." Oh yeah, I did remember him telling me how he wrote songs sometimes with his friends.
"Well show me." I say smiling.I see Silver wink at me and walk out my room. Vic picks up his guitar and tunes it a little. After his guitar is tuned, he strums a few chords and smiles at me before he starts singing:
"Sunshine, there aint a thing that you can do thats gonna ruin my night. But theirs just something about it.
This dizzy dreamer and her bleeding little blue boy. Licking your fingers like your done and you,ve decided there is so much more than me..
And baby honestly its harder breathing next to you, I shake.
I brought a gun and as the preacher tried to stop me..
Hold my heart, its beating for you anyway."
The chords he played on the guitar became heavier and he continued singing.
"What if I cant forget you? Ohhh.
Ill burn your name into my throat, I'll be the fire that'll catch you.
Whats so good about picking up the peices?
None of the colors ever light up anymore in this hole.
I could tell Vic was pouring every bit of him into each lyric he sang. By the time he sang the last few words, I was on the edge of tears. "Vic that was beautiful." I say. "And violent in a way." He adds laughing. I laugh too then yawn. "You should go to bed beautiful. Sorry for keeping you up so late, I just reallyy wanted you to hear this song." I look down so he doesnt see me blush. We say goodnight to each other and I end the facetime call.
Silver walks back in as if on cue. "Was that Vic singing?" She asks, curling up on the dark blue couch in my room. I nod. "He's really good...and the song he just wrote is amazing." "I heard." Said Silver. She rolls onto her side and closes her eyes. I toss a blanket onto her and she starts snoring right away. I cant blame her. Today was a long and exciting day for the both of us. I turn off my phone and snuggle down into the covers of my bed after switching the lights off. I think about Vic for a little bit until my eyes get heavy. For the first time in a really long while, I go to sleep smiling.
