Lacey's POV.
'Lyka! Lyka! Open the door, please!' I shouted for the nth time. Of all the times I could have locked myself out of our room, why now? And why does it have to be now that she's asleep with her earphones on full blast? Oh, I hope she could somehow hear my voice, I desperately hoped. All I can do now is bang at the door and keep shouting.
I went into the porch of Geneva and Courntey's cottage which was just a few steps away. Maybe they could help me. Maybe if we shout together she could hear us. I knocked at the door, and I could hear the music still playing at the resto. Mark still sang the bridge part of the song. Why can't the girls wake up? After some more attempts I gave up. Maybe I can seek help from the reception area, tell them that I was locked out and that my company couldn't wake up from inside? Could Lyka make it on time if I.... I run now. Why didn't I think of that earlier? Sigh. Stupid me. As I run up the slope to the reception area I could hear Mark's voice becoming more distant as I walk farther. And as I do I realize that I am running out of time. How could this feeling be so intense? I never have experienced this before. I remember all the times when I wasted time, and now I'm running out of it. And to make things worse, I slipped and fell on my knees. For fuck's sake, why now?
I try to get up and keep going, but my knee hurts. I touched it and it hurt so bad. I could sense liquid coming out of my wound, which I suppose was blood. You need to keep going, Lace! You need to, I told myself in my mind.
'Lacey!' I stopped in my tracks when someone called my name. It was Geneva.
'Geneva! What are you doing here?' I asked, surprised that she was only a few yards away behind me.
'I heard you knock, but when I opened the door I saw you running away. And the tone in your voice when you called our name was like you had an urgent need or something. I kept on calling you but you didn't seem to hear.' Geneva explained.
'Geneva, Mr. Soultoucher is Mark! You need to help me!' I exclaimed.
'What?!'
'I have no time to explain but please go back and wake her up, and I call help from the front desk!' I said as I wave my hands dismissively.
'Okay!' Geneva ran away very quickly though I could see in her face that she was surprised and confused. There was no time to explain, like I said.I limp-walked toward the reception area and tried to look as non-desperately looking as I can but as soon as I opened my mouth I hear myself fumbling, stuttering, and speaking in a fast pace. The lady behind the desk seemed more confused than Geneva. I tried to breathe and finally, I was able to convey my message very calmly-- that I was locked out of my room and that my roommate could not be waken up.
'May I have your name please?' The lady asked.
'Lacey Claire Rogers. From room 2. My roommate is Ms. Lyka Lapid.' I replied as I felt my mouth drying out.
'One moment please.' The lady said as she navigated on the computer in front of her. I put my hands into my pocket and my jaw dropped when I felt something in the left pocket. I pulled it out for my own confirmation.
'The key!' I shouted.
'Yes Ma'am?' The lady asked as she looked back at me.
'Never mind, thanks for the help by the way!' I yelled as I ran back to our cottage, with the words 'I have the key all along' repeating in my head. How could I be soooo stupid, Lacey Claire? I asked myself indignantly.
As I approach our room I heard the vocalist sang the last line of the song. It's over. I paused for a while, and my shoulders sagged. I sighed. I continued on my tracks, walking sadly this time. Oh, that would've been a great surprise to Lyka.
I finally saw Geneva in the porch, still knocking on the door, and she seemed to have lost some voice. She must have been shouting. I walked up to her, placed my hand on her shoulder, and shook my head slowly with a sad look in my face. Geneva was still confused and looked more sleepy now than ever, so I advised her to go back to sleep. I also promised to tell her everything the following day. She, on the other hand, apologized that she failed to do what she was asked and that she is too sleepy to talk about Mr. Soultoucher. I could even tell that she might have had forgotten that I told her that Mark is Mr. Soultoucher. She waved my hand at me once with a smile, and went back to her room.
I was suppose to unlock the door with the key in my hand, but I realized that I had just suddenly left Mark without saying goodbye, and that's just not appropriate. So I headed back at the resto. I see him having another gulp of beer in our table. I walked toward him and apologized as soon as he saw me.
'Where have you been?' Mark asked casually. 'You requested that I sing but you left.' He frowned when he said that.
'I'm sorry, Mark. I just thought Lyka had to hear you. And she should know.' I said, fidgeting with my fingers as I looked down at them.
'Know what?' He asked, in a casual way again.
'That you are her Mr. Soultoucher.' I said, facing him.
He was puzzled at first, confused. His eyebrows furrowed a little. 'Sing On Smule?' He asked.
'Yeah. Lyka's been listening to your songs on Sing.' I told him, as if I was Lyka myself. I heard my voice shake a little.
'I--um, I'm speechless. Well, thank you. Oh, please tell her thank you. I'm just.....' He did not know what else to say. It seemed that his heart was really warmed with what I just told him. But I could see in his eyes that he did not expect that someone would really appreciate his voice in that way, that much.
'She's actually trying to look for Mr. Soultoucher before we met you and even after I saw she likes you. She's just that drawn into you, I mean, you as Mark and even you as Mr. Soultoucher.' I confessed.
'It warms my heart, really.' He was speechless for a second. 'Do you happen to know her username?' He asked with twinkles in his eyes.
'It's Gingercat19.' I told him. I saw his eyes dilate as soon as I said the name. He gasped but he smiled. He looked toward the dark sea. Then a drop of tear fell from his right eye.
'Mark, I'm sorry. Did I say something wrong?' I asked him, worried that he'll blurt out words out of what he felt right now which I assume was anger. He just wiped the teardrop away but more tears came up into his eyes after.
'I did not expect this to happen.' He almost whispered as he looked down with eyes closed tightly.
'I don't know what you are talking about.' I said, feeling confused but already on the verge of crying as well. He took out his phone and unlocked it. Then he showed me a Sing profile that he did not exit from. The profile photo was a red heart with a black background. Below it, the username Gingercat19 showed. I became more confused than ever.
'I've been listening to her, too. You see, I was listening to her recording of Love You Like A Love Song earlier when you were on the way to the pool.' He continued when he saw the look in my face.
'No way. Really????' I asked, in disbelief that all these coincidences were happening now.
'I'm serious,' He said as he put his and in the air, shoulder level, as if to say he swore he's not lying. 'But don't tell her, please. Let me be the one to tell her personally. In fact, some ideas are already coming into my head as to how I should tell her.'
I smiled. Then I squinted at him. 'You are not doubting at all what I had just said, are you?' I asked, for assurance. I need to make sure this is all happening perfectly.
'I'm not. I trust your eyes.' Then he winked. I caught my breathe there for a second like I had a stroke from his smile. No wonder Lyka took a liking on you, I thought.
'Well, Lace, thanks for everything today. I got to go to sleep now. I'll talk to you tomorrow about my plans, okay?' He said as he was ready to leave our table.
'Yah, sure. I'll just finish drinking one bottle of beer then I'll go to sleep as well.' I said, smiling.
'Kay. See you tomorrow.' He smiled them waved goodbye at me. I grinned back at him like a sheepish child.
