Gotta S.S.super-charge it! Grand prix final: free programme

During the wait for the free programs to start, tensions only rose further from an already impossible high. I sat on the floor, a few meters away from where Yuri was, zoning out instead of trying to focus properly.

It was weird to think that this would be the end of the Grand Prix. Would everyone get along like old friends when they meet again? Would Yuri and I stay a couple?

I frowned at the thought of losing Yuri. Charlie sat down beside me with a small huff. He nails were growing out slowly, not as ragged as before with all her nibbling. I made sure to check my costume for rips before she even got near me, as to ward off a storm of fury. "Excited?" She asked, crossing her legs.

"Kinda? It's weird to compete in the Grand Prix men's league singles," I admitted, head dropping slightly.

"What was your brother like? I don't have any brothers, or sisters, so I don't know what kind of relationship you would have." Charlie leaned on her arms a little, looking over at me with curiosity.

"Alfie could be considered the mature one, out of the two of us. He always kept me in check and would worry over everyone like a mother hen." I smiled, surrounding myself with happy memories. "He had the tendency to overthink things sometimes, especially when it came to choreography. Other than that, we both got on well with each other." I paused, taking a moment to gawk at Yuri's split overextension. "What about you? You said you were an only child."

"Oh, well, I've got my mum who's a harpist like me, but is way better even though she says I'm the better one-" Charlie begins to grin "-and my dad is the person who showed me the world of TV and movies! He showed me 300, Scarface, and The Shining when I was eight. Plus, we once had a Star Wars marathon!"

"Original trilogy, or the rest?" I asked. Her facial features turned deadly serious.

"Original three. Who would like the prequels?" She said.

"Thoughts on Jar Jar Binks?" I asked.

She hissed in annoyance and clenched her teeth. I nearly thought she was going to rip out her own hair with how hard she had begun gripping it. "He's so annoying! All the stupid things he does and -argh! I just can't."

"What are you two idiots talking about?" Yuri made his way over, plonking himself down beside me before placing his head on my shoulder. We had about a few minutes before the first few competitors were called out and I could feel his nervousness clear as day.

"Star Wars." Charlie said, watching Viktor dote on Yuuri quietly. Those two had gotten closer over the past few weeks and it was lovely to see.

Victor cut in, his wide grin coming onto his face, "Ooh, I watched those movies when they were on TV in Russia. The CGI ruined it for me, though."

Both Charlie and Yuri, surprisingly, gasped in shock. Charlie punched the world-renowned skater's shoulder. Victor recoiled. "Ow! Charlie, how strong are you?"

She simply shrugged off her coat and rolled up her long sleeves. "It's what you get for doing eight hours of swimming training a week," She said, smiling cheekily. Viktor and I gaped at her biceps. She flexed and Viktor whined outright, frustrated that he wasn't that buff.

"What about your calf muscles?" Yuri asked, comparing his own arms to Charlie's.

She simply rolled up her pant legs and flexed again. Yuri scoffed, more than a little envious of how well defined her legs were in comparison. He had muscle, for sure, but his was toned to the point of near invisibility. Charlie's legs were sculpted enough that even Viktor let out a whistle in surprise.

"My little Charlie, we'll have to come watch you swim one day!" I shouted, laughing as she punched my gut, softly.

Alex came barreling over to where we were and yanked me away from Charlie. "You're on already!"

I nearly wheezed when she shoved me towards the ice. I took off my blade guards with trembling hands, already feeling adrenaline flooding my system. I stated toward center ice and settled into my starting pose for the last time.

The song always made me want to go faster, to put more into my performance, but if I went any faster I would just end up screwing with my program and looking unprofessional in my sudden haste. I made sure to keep with the song's time, switching in and out of entry sequences as needed and playing up the presentation aspect of my routine.

My first jump was a triple double combination that I had modified since the last time I had done this particular routine. It would be less straining then to do a quad right off the bat, but it also meant that if I fell out of it, I would lose more possible points. I put my faith in my practice and did my best. The rest of the routine was a blur from there. I barely even noticed when I was already stepping off the ice, smiling even as my eyes were blank.

It was done.

I watched Yuri perform form the Kiss and Cry. His performance was somehow even better than ever before and I found myself glued to him rather than the interviewers trying to ask about my private life. I didn't even notice how much I had been fixating on Yuri until the commentator's voice boomed throughout the arena.

"The results are in! Third place is Katsuki Yuuri of Japan! Second place is Samuel Smith of Britain! First place is Yuri Plisetsky of Russia!"

I nearly screamed, overwhelmed to the point of tears. I hugged Yuri for a long moment, happy for the both of us.

As I stood on the second pedestal, I thought back to the year. Alfie's death had been a hard blow to everyone. I hadn't dealt with that well, but in moving to Hasetsu I met Yuri. I also met Viktor and Yuuri and a myriad of other people who all helped me on my way. I was going to miss this, I decided, but before I could even so much as bet misty eyed with nostalgia, Yuri was already dragging me off the pedestal and toward our coaches.

The banquet that night was crazy, more than half of it spent in the company of a giggling Yuri who had too much blackmail on Viktor to be safe and even some on Yuuri, if he wanted to really get even with the Katsudon for stealing Viktor. I laughed into my glass at yet another picture of Yuuri drunk dancing on Viktor.

This has been a great year.

Bello ^^
