Training... Abigail was training in the woods. She wanted to be strong. After her hysterical crying fit in front of her father's small class of warriors over a doll that her mother had given her, she felt weak and exposed. So she secretly took a sword from her father's personal collection and went out to an old training area that she knew well out in the woods. She had been training there for a little while, every so often she had a chance. She wanted to be stronger... after making a fool of herself and even her father, she felt like she had to show strength. So she started teaching herself how to use a sword. She taught herself how to balance her sword, how to handle, how to use it, anything that a basic warrior should know. And she kept this all a secret from her father.
When she was training out in the woods for a longer period of time than she was used to, she had decided to take a break and eat a lunch she had packed. When she had finished and was getting ready to go back into training, she had heard odd noises and decided to investigate. When she had finally stumbled upon the source, she found three children about the same age as her playing in the woods. She observed from far, choosing not to interfere with whatever they were doing. She had to get back to training soon, but something about them peaked her interest. She watched them for a few minutes and wondered, 'Could I have been like that?'. She had been so busy with training, she almost forgot what it was like to have fun. She had suddenly become startled when a hand landed on her shoulder, and she tackled the other... Pup? She looked back at the clearing to see that one of the pups was missing, and the pup she had pinned down looked familiar.
"I-I am so sorry!" She said. The other pup just looked at her with a questioning look.
"Were you... watching us?" The pup asked questioningly.
"I, uh... I-I mean..." Abigail stuttered, struggling to find an excuse, or anything really, to say.
"Did you want to join us? We could really use another player! They think I'm too good..." He stuck his tongue out to the pups behind Abigail.
"I... Y-Yeah! Sure!" Abigail said happily. That was how she had made new friends.
In her tribe, it was rare for women to join the warrior class. Only the strongest who proved themselves, which were far and few, could become a warrior. Other than that, women were considered weak and emotional.
So, when she came out to her father about learning to be a warrior, he was both overjoyed and furious. He insisted that there is no way that she just 'taught' herself and that she must have had some help, so she showed him, and he was amazed. She used all the basic techniques of a warrior, but she had her own technique in it. So, from that day on, her father took her in as his pupil. She was a fast learner, but her father taught her the basics of a warrior's training anyways. When fighting, she used newly gained knowledge and used it to her advantage, but also kept her technique when fighting. This made her fighting style both unique and powerful at the same time. She would use these skills and practice on live targets, which she never got the quality to do when she was training in the forest. She would sometimes fight her father, sometimes one of his students, and always use it to improve. But her father had to set a high standard for her if she wanted to continue to pursue a warrior's role in the tribe.
At the age of 13, she worked tirelessly when she met her father every few moons to do her training, and she had time between those few moons to meet her friends in the forest. But as time went on, the line between personal life and warrior life began to slip. She would either be too playful when training and get scolded or she would be very serious when out with her friends, causing the mood to feel a little sour. She would eventually come to a crossroads where she would have to choose. A life with her friends or a life as a warrior, and is was becoming apparent that she couldn't have both. Each was a hard decision, and that day was soon approaching. In the end, Abigail chose the warriors life. It was the best way to utilize her abilities and it was what she had been training for this whole time. While it may seem selfish, she wasn't about to throw away all of her hard work for her friends. Her hard work was the whole reason she found out about them.
And from then on, with her decision made, she ceased all contact with her friends and delved fully into training. Instead of meeting every few moons, they met every other moon, training ferociously and working till they were and their last legs. And they repeated this for a long time. So long, time began to blur and it became hard to tell how long they had been training. But, in her eyes, it was worth it. She had trained hard for this position and she would not stop until she achieved it. She would meet her father's goals and go beyond his standards, however high they may be. And of course she still had a long way to go, but she kept faith.
The night she had officially become a warrior, she decided to meet her friends one last time. She didn't know what to expect, but she wasn't expecting this.
While Abigail was away, her group of friends had begun to fall apart.
