I was finally given the permission to enter the room. Eden was lying on the bed looking peaceful, messy hair covering her beautiful face as her soft breathe quietly snoozed in the room. As soon as I stepped in and Eden opened her eyes, I saw the relieved look on her face. I felt bad for coming in and waking her up.
"Darko!"
"Hey Eden", I whispered and carefully sat on the edge of the bed. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm alright but... you know what's this all about right?"
Sweetly I kissed her forehead as I tried to look empathetic. I sucked at it though.
"I heard about it. I'm sorry, Eden."
"Don't apologise. It's not your fault."
"But..."
"Darko, you apologise for everything. What happened to your old shameless yourself?" Eden smiled slightly and sat up. She looked so carefree I was wondering if she even understood the situation.
"But Eden... you just miscarriaged. I mean, doesn't that concern you at all?"
Eden looked at me and shrugged.
"Bad things happen."
I was surprised by her answer but decided not to go further in the subject. Instead I gently laid her back down.
"You should rest now."
"But I don't want to rest... I want you", she whispered and gave me a flirty smirk. I laughed shortly, this was really awkward.
"Now, now. You're confused from all this. We have plenty of time to do that... thing... once you're back to health."
"But..."
I laid my finger on her lips and smiled.
"No buts, missy. Close your eyes and get some rest."
"Fine", she sighed and rolled around on the mattress. The blankets rustled under her weight as she finally settled down and buried her head on the pillow. I covered her up and gave her one last kiss on cheek before standing up. I was just about to walk out of the door when I heard her soft voice across the room.
"Darko?"
"Yes?"
"Could we keep this as a secret from Elizabeth? It's not necessary for her to know what happened, you know..."
"Of course, Eden. I'll come see you around lunch time. Just rest for now, okay?"
"Okay." Her answer got interrupted by a yawn. I glanced at her one more time before going outside. The rain had finally stopped, leaving the road soggy and puddled. I stepped down to the glistening pavement and let my gaze travel around the street view. Firgrove was a little old-fashioned but yet such a mysterious village. I heard my stomach growl out loud. I hadn't even had breakfast yet...

I woke up a few hours later and stared at the clock on the wall opposite my bed. It was close to eleven in the morning. This wasn't my first time staying at Firgrove. I had been here before. We didn't have a doctor in Valedale so we often came to Firgrove to meet Mrs. Turnstone. I had always liked her personality, somehow we always came along. I should introduce Darko to her some day. I giggled to myself and sat up on the soft bed outstaring at the door. He should be here soon. I tapped my finger against my thigh in boredom and stared at the pointers of the clock as if my gaze would make them tick faster forward. I sighed and threw my legs over the edge of the bed. I was just about to get up when I heard someone turn the handle of the door. Is Darko already here?
"Good morning, Eden. How are you feeling?" It was Mrs. Turnstone. She must have left the house while I was asleep. I greeted her friendly as she came closer and sat next to me.
"I'm feeling better now. It's just..." I wasn't sure what it was. I was aware of my miscarriage but it felt so unreal. As if it was just a dream and the whole pregnancy wasn't there at all. "I can't solve out my emotions about this."
Turnstone laid her hand on my shoulder and looked at me for a long while with a sympathetic smile on her face.
"It's normal, Eden. After such a tragic event, it's very usual to us to get confused."
"Something in me died... a child... my child. Why am I not feeling emotional at all?"
Turnstone remained quiet before she continued.
"Eden, I heard you've been through a lot lately. Give yourself time to assimilate with the situation."
"I'm scared..." I couldn't help but bury my face in my hands and sigh heavily. These few last months had been so stressful and full of anxiety I felt it drown me head over heels now. I felt Turnstone gently pull me in her arms and hug me tight. It felt good to have someone next to me. Suddenly the ringing doorbell interrupted the silence among us as Turnstone let go of me.
"It's probably Darko. Do you want me to leave you two alone?"
"No no, you don't have to." I hurried to say. It felt impolite to ask such a thing.
"Everything will be okay." She walked up to the door and opened it. I heard her discuss something with Darko but couldn't sort out any words. I laid back on the bed and pulled the sheets over myself. Cold autumn breeze blew in through the door and caught on my toes. After a while Darko finally closed it up and came back to me with a box in his hand. I wonder what that is...
"Are you hungry?" Darko asked smiling as he pulled a chair next to me and laid the plastic box on the bed. "I brought lunch." He opened it slowly letting out a delicious smell of freshly fried fish and potatoes.
"Now when you ask about it..." I licked my lips and couldn't keep my eyes off the steaming food. Darko smirked and handed it to me as he sat down and stretched out. I watched him slowly take off his soaked cape and place it on the back of his chair. I grabbed on the potatoes and munched them happily. Mrs. Turnstone disappeared outside.
"So what did the doctor say? When are you ready to leave?" He leaned forward closer to me and tilted his head to the left a bit. I had to stop my eating for a while and have a look at his cute face. My heart melted from his sweet interrogative stare.
"She wants to keep me in until the evening to make sure there are no complications. I was lucky to have a miscarriage this early, it lowers the risk of any severe consequences." My voice faded as I finished my sentence. I felt horrible for using the word 'lucky' but what else could I have done? I had only bled a little and got an upset stomach but otherwise I felt fine. Physically.
