The (Star Spangled Banner)

The U.S national anthem

O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Did you recognize that tune  maybe you did maybe you didn't that was the U.S. national anthem (Then star spangled banner).It was written by Francis Scott Key in 1814. It has been the U.S. national anthem for 75 years. I t started off as a poem. On March 3, 1931 congress voted to make it the national anthem.

Some people feel we should have a different song to be the U.S. national anthem. Some people don't like that the anthem is about the war between the U.S and Britain and others think the lyrics are too hard to remember an that the anthem is too hard to sing. They want an easier song for the national anthem.In 1918 Irving Berlin wrote the song (God Bless America).In 1938 it was played on the radio and it became a hit. Many of people like the song today. The song is simple but it tells how many people feel about America.

Many American don't know what the National anthem is about. June 1812, the U.S declared war. Francis Scott Key wrote a poem called Defense of Fort McHenry the poem became a popular song set to a tune by British composer John Stafford Smith. By the early 20th century  the song was then known as (The star spangled banner) it is played at military and sporting events. On March 3 1931 congress adopted the song as the national anthem.
