Shayna's Complete and Utter Cliche Romance Story
CHAPTER 3
Have you ever noticed that the water is especially calming? Then you feel numb when you just let it carry you without a care in the world. Whenever I was in the water, I always thought of a line from Paramore's Caught Myself.
Down to you. You're pushing and pulling me down to you.
I loved Paramore and their music had this calming effect on me. Just like the water. Even when I was sinking further.
I just let my body float there. I would only leave when I necessarily had to. For some reason breathing was like a second priority. I always wanted to stay down here. It was like I was a small child again and nothing in the world could hurt me here. Unfortunately, all good things have to come to an end. Next thing I knew, a rough hand had gripped my upper arm and hoisted me up. I gasped at the sudden contact.
"Shay are you alright?" Leo asked.
I didn't answer. Instead I just leaned my head against his head and tried desperately to breathe. Of course Leo's grip on my arm and the fact that he was so close, wasn't making it any easier.
"Shay, please say something." Leo said, sounding panicked.
I coughed up a little bit of water and looked into Leo's eyes.
"I'm ok. Just got caught up is all." I said.
Leo shook his head and sighed. He was still so close. I gulped and tried to moved away a little bit, but Leo held me in place. He pulled me closer if possible. I looked up and gave him a confused expression, but he wasn't looking at me. I followed his gaze to Eric who was on one of the lounge chairs with his eyes narrowed at us. Leo was giving him a glare and I couldn't quite understand what was going on.
"Um, Leo?"
He glanced at me.
"Uh, you can let me go now." I said quietly.
Leo's expression set to a scowl, but he released me none the less. I backed away slowly as the boys went back to their little glaring contest.
"Leo!"
Oh no. I would know that high pitched girl shriek anywhere. Please let me be dreaming. Please let me be dreaming. Please let me be dreaming!
"Oh, hey loser. How's life?" Aly asked me while looking at me in disgust.
Of course, Jesus just couldn't let it be a dream, could he? Ignoring the fact that the devil incarnate was standing in front of me in the flesh, I turned my fierce glare toward Leo. He looked at me and gave me a sheepish grin. I narrowed my eyes at him. He knows we hate each other! He knows that I absolutely detest her! What the hell was he thinking, inviting her to my house?! He shrunk back in fear and slowly walked out of the pool. I scowled at his and mouthed 'later'. Later he's getting a damn ear full.
"Loser, please stop drooling over my boyfriend. Ok, thanks." Aly said in a tone that made me want to rip her face off.
It was a triumphant tone. She wanted me to know that she won. I scowled. This is far from over.
"If I'm such a loser, then what the hell are you doing in my house?" I asked her while I got out of the pool.
I gave her a pointed look when I saw that she hesitated. She obviously wasn't used to me standing up to her.
"I'm, uh, just here for Leo." Aly said.
She looked unsure of what she was going to do next. Good, I wanted to put her on the spot to see her squirm.
