I have lived in the same house that I was brought home from the hospital in for almost eighteen years. That is all about to change, because I'm moving.
"Ugh. Mom! When are we going to get there?" I ask, irritated.
It's summer. We should be having fun at the beach or going swimming, or even camping, but no. I'm stuck in a car with my parents. We have been driving for almost twenty hours straight. I don't see why we have to move anyways. We were just fine where we were. All of my earliest memories have been in this house. It might not be the perfect house, but it was our house.
My dad got a new job in business and I don't see why he couldn't just go by himself. As I think that, I instantly feel bad because I do love my family, but I was happy where we were living. I had to say goodbye to all of my friends, and even my boyfriend, Chris."Well, call me when you get there," He said as he leaned down and kissed me.
"I.. will.." I said through sobs as he pulled me towards him.
The sound of my parents talking dragged me right out of that memory.
We drove for about fifteen more minutes until we spotted some houses. These houses were nice. Way nicer than my old house. All of the houses had very lovely front yards. Each house had at least two stories and some even had three. There was tons of flowers and green grass everywhere.
As we pulled up in front of a house, I noticed a moving truck in the driveway. Crap. We're here. I thought to myself. Even though I didn't want to admit it, the house was really beautiful. It was actually a little too big for a family of three, my dad had told me that it was a five bedroom and three bathroom house, but it was nice. As I got out of the car, my mom told me to go and see if I liked the house.
The house looked amazing so far. The movers had already put in the couches, the table, some chairs, and a whole lot of boxes.
"Kourtney, go upstairs and look at your room. The movers have already put all of your stuff up there." My mom says as she takes a box into the kitchen.
I walk upstairs and wasn't exactly sure which way to go. I went right and I found a huge bedroom that had an attached bathroom. My parent's master bedroom.
The door next to that was another bedroom. I'm guessing it is the guest bedroom? I walked to the end of the hall and opened the last bedroom door that was upstairs. Wow. It was my room. All of my stuff was in there. I went in and opened another door that was in my room. My own bathroom. How bad could this place possibly be? I ask myself.
I went down and checked out the rest of the house. I went to the living room. It was big, and spacious. I went to look at the other rooms in the house. One of the rooms was for my dad's work. He was a business man. He always traveled. My mom was an attorney, so she was gone a lot as well. I wondered what this last bedroom was for? I opened the door and it has a pool table in it. A game room, perhaps? To keep me entertained? I am pretty use to being alone with my parents gone a lot and with my sister, Kate away at college.
I went to check out the backyard. It was amazing just like the rest of the house. Our backyard was big and green and there was even a pool. I had always wanted a pool. I had completely forgotten to call Chris. I dialed him immediately. He answered on the third ring.
"Hey, babe," He said.
"Hi. How are you?"
"Fine, and yourself? I miss you like crazy. I'm kinda busy right now..Finals and all." He sounds so sad.
"I miss you too. Okay. I'll call you tomorrow. I love you."
"I love you too," He says as we hang up.
"Can you come and help me put the rest of the dishes away in the kitchen?" My mother asked me.
"Sure." I said as we head into the kitchen.
"Wow, mom. The kitchen is really coming together." I say.
"Thanks sweetie. We should be done unpacking in a couple of days," She says as she cuts open a new box.
"Hey," My dad says as he walks into the kitchen. "I love what you've done with the place," He tells my mom as he grabs her hand and and kisses it.
"Thank you, dear." She says with a smile.
By the time it was dinner time, we had been unpacking all day long and nobody was in the mood to make dinner, so we ordered some pizza.
After dinner, I told my parents that I was tired and I was going to go to sleep. Instead of going to sleep, I called Kate. I missed her so much. It has been over five months since I last saw her.
"Hey!" She answered on the second ring.
"Hi."
"Are you at the house yet?"
"Yes. I really do like it." I hated admitting.
"Really? That's amazing! Hey, I have to go right now, but I'll talk to you later, okay? I can't believe we're going to see eachother more!" She says. This is the longest that we have gotten to talk in a long time.
"I know! Okay, bye." I said fighting back tears.
I really didn't sleep too much that night. I had finished unpacking my entire room. The movers had put my bed where I wanted it, along with my dresser, my t.v., and my desk. I finally had all of my clothes put away in my drawers and in my closet. I love my new room. As much as I don't want to admit it, I really do like it.
