I wake up the next morning starving. I look at the clock and it reads 10:15. I roll out of bed and head to my closet. I quickly get dressed in some black shorts and a pink tank top.

When I get downstairs, I see my mom and Anne sitting at the table.

"Hey. What's going on?" I ask my mom.

"Good morning, sweetie. Your father is away on business for the next few days and Anne and I were just talking about the bakery," She smiles.

"Hello, Kourtney. Your mother and I want to open a business together."

"Wow, that's amazing,"  I say as I grab an orange and sit down at the table.

"We have to ask you something," My mother says.

"Sure. What is it?" I ask as I start to peel my orange.

"Well," Anne begins. "I was wondering if you had any plans this summer?"

"No, I don't think so."

"Well, since your mother and I will be starting a bakery and I already own a bakery, I will be falling behind on housework, and I was wondering if I could pay you to clean it? Your mother says you are a really clean and organized person. All you have to do is dust, vacuum, clean the bathrooms, dishes, and Harry will clean the pool and mow the lawn."

"Sure, sounds great."

"Alright, can you start tomorrow?" Anne asks as she finishes her cup of coffee.

"Absolutely, did you say you already owned a bakery?"

"Yeah. I'll show you it sometime."

"What is your bakery called?"

"It's called Sweet-N-Simple." She says.

"Oh. yeah, Harry took me there yesterday," I say.

"He did?" She looks up surprised.

"Yeah. He was showing me around town."

"Oh." She smiles. "Thanks so much for having me. I have to go and pack. Kourtney, here," She said as she handed me a spare key to her house.

"Thanks, Anne."

"My pleasure." She smiles and walks out the door.

"Okay. Bye, Anne!" My mother yells.

"Wow, that's cool that you're finally going to have a bakery, but doesn't it cost a lot of money?" I ask as I eat a bite of my orange.

"Yeah, I'm really excited about it, and yes, it does, but I have saved up money for the past fifteen years. Oh, I have to go pack and I will be gone for two days."

"When are you leaving?" I asked.

"In a few minutes."

"Wait. You're leaving today?" I ask confused.

"Yes, Anne and I have some details to go over, and then we have to meet with an accountant, and find a location. You'll be fine by yourself, right?" She asks.

"Yeah, I'll be fine," I say.

"Okay. See you in a bit," She says as she walks past me.

As my mom comes downstairs with her suitcase, she smiles at me.

"What are you going to do while your father and I are away?"

"Oh, I don't know. Read a book. Make some food. Maybe swim?"

"Sounds nice. Maybe you should make some friends as well?" She asks, but I know she was telling me to make some new friends.

"Alright. I will try."
