Boys who witness domestic violence are 2 times as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults.

I could heard muffled talking as I started to woke up. I kept my eyes closed as I listened to Jacob talking to someone, "After she fell, she passed out. I tried catching her, but she still took a pretty big fall. For the past couple of days she'd say she felt weak and I would suggest for her to go to the hospital, but she tends to think she's invincible to sickness and insisted she was OK." His voice cracked and he sounds like he's crying, " If I would've listened to my gut and had taken her to the hospital, she wouldn't lie here unconscious.".

A lady started to speak, "This isn't your fault Mr. Perez. There was no way you could've known. I assure you, your wife and baby is going to be fine.".

Jacob raises his voice, "You say that, but she's been unconscious for two days!".

Two Days?

Amongst hearing that, I fluttered my eyes open and became aware of my surroundings.

I was in a blue and grey bricked hospital room that reeked of vomit, medicine and Pine-Sol. I was in a plaided grey hospital gown. My left wrist was wrapped in an ace bandage and had an IV attached to it.

I looked over at the doctor talking to Jacob. She was dark skinned, taller than Jacob so about 6'0, her hair was pulled back into a thick donut bun, she had a thin body frame and looked to be in her mid 30s.

I looked over at Jacob as he continued to tell his sob story. He had his hair pulled up into a messy bun, and looked to have not slept in days. He was really trying to prove how much of a worried, loving husband he is, and it looked like he succeeded.

The doctor had pulled him into a hug and that's when our eyed locked. He had straightened his face up and gave me a blank stare. But as soon as he let go of the doctor he had gasped and rushed to my bedside.

He kissed my forehead and smiled brightly, "You're finally awake!". The doctor stood at the foot of my bed and smiled pleasingly, "Glad to see you're awake. I'm Dr. Williams.".

I groaned and grabbed my side as I sat up, "What happened to me?".

Dr. Williams looked at her clip board, "For starters, you've suffered a sprained wrist, several bruised ribs and a mild concussion. All of those will heal smoothly, but what I'm more concerned about is your nutrition. You passed out due to a massive lack of the nutrients your body needs. Your husband told me you took a pregnancy test that resulted in positive and I can tell you that is a fact. You're two months pregnant to be exact."She was pretty nonchalant about the whole situation.

She placed the clipboard on the bed, "You were dehydrated and mainly lacked in iron, which is why you felt extremely weak. I've prescribed you with pain medication and prenatal vitamins that are rich in Iron. Take one of each twice a day and you'll feel better in no time. I'd just suggest you take it easy for a minimum of one week.".

I sighed in relief. The weight on my shoulders were lifted. To hear that my baby was OK was all that I needed to hear.

"Your husband told me it was OK that I schedule an appointment for you with our prenatal doctor for next month on the first of May. Is that OK with you?" Dr. Williams looked at me with concerned look for a split second then gave a warm smile.
