Chapter 1:

The rain drops raced down the window as the sleek black car swiftly rolled along the highway. Thunder clouds rolled across the sky and the first bolts of lightning flashed across the gloomy skies. It had been a week since the fire and I was on my way to the airport to fly across Indian ocean to the great U.K.

Nothing ever happened to me, but the first time something slightly out of the ordinary happens it brings nothing but pain and lonliness.

The tragedy that changed my life started back on a Tuesday while my family and I were at home and I was busy trying to finish my science assignment that was due in the morning. My brother and sister were watching Regular Show and mum and dad were busy setting up shelves in their room. It was storming, it had been storming for awhile, and the house was freezing. I was in my grey track pants and my dark green hoodie. I was putting the final touched on the poster of my assignment when there was a flash of light and a loud clap of thunder not to far from the house. I heard screams in the lounge and rushed out to calm my screaming siblings. The rain poured harder and the storm raged on harder and harder. I wasn't one to ne afraid of storms but the lighting was getting to close for my comfort. I grabbed a blanket from the cupboard and threw it over my brother and sister then walked to the back door and let the dog in. She looked pretty freaked out and scattered inside and lay down next to my sister.

We watched the Regular show trying to keep our minds off the storm. When my siblings seemed calmer I strolled into my mom and dads room. The shelves were up and they were watching tv. I kissed them both goodnite and kissed my brother and sister too before heading back to my room and flopping onto my bed. I closed my eyes let the drum of the rain lull me to sleep.

I woke with a start as the sound of thunder rattled the windows. The rain was pouring harder than ever now and I couldn't sleep. I popped in my earphones and hit play. "More Than This" by One Direction played and I hummed along and settled down drifting off to sleep.....

BANG. I'd only just closed my eyes when a bolt of lightning hit the house. I screamed as the windows shattered and the cold wind blew in. The rain streamed through and I leapt out of bed. I coughed and sniffed the air. Smoke. As fast as possible I grabbed my bag and stuffed valuables in it. Then I ran out of my room and into my sisters. She was siting on the bed clutching her tedy and bawling her eyes out I grabbed her by the hand and hauled her out of the room. We stumbled into the lounge and ran to the hallway as the glass doors blew out sending glass everywhere. I shielded my sister from most of the blow and and bolted down the hallway clutching her hand. "MUM"I screamed,"DAD". We made it to the front door which was already thrown open. Dad stood in the doorway coughing, when he saw us he hauled us outside and across the road to where my mother and brother stood holding my shivering dog. I could see now that the roof of the house was ablaze and watched as the fire flickered under the rain only slightly as the storm was no match for the powerful fire that destroyed my home. We waited for the sirens but knew it would take a while because my home was in a very remote area and we had no neighbors for miles. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I watched my home become a smoldering mess. We all huddled under the small shelter of a tree and cuddled together as we waited for the sound of sirens or the lights of the fire trucks. Too long passed and the fire finally ate itself to nothing leaving our house as no more than ash and bricks.

I was about to ask why no one had come when my voice was drowned out by another bone rattling clap of thunder. I shivered and looked at the sky. It was dark and the moon was full. It had to be around midnight and the sun wouldn't be coming up for a few more hours. I was starting to think we could make it through the night when there was a flash of lightning and a tall dark figure appeared. I screamed and turned to my family reaching out to them one last time before the figure grabbed me and everything went black.
