"Hello, my name is Professor McGonagall. If you could line up and follow me, I will take you to the Great Hall where you will be sorted. There are four houses, Gryffindor the brave, Hufflepuff, the loyal, Ravenclaw, the wise, and Slytherin, the cunning. Good luck," stated a witch with a tall pointed hat on her head. The professor lead us out of the Entrance Hall and into the Great Hall, which fit its name perfectly. The grand walls were stories high, with the magnificent ceiling enchanted to reveal the beautiful night sky above. Candles hovered at different heights throughout the room, casting a beautiful glow over the room.

"First Years! Please line up in the front of the room," exclaimed McGonagall.

We lined up in the front of the room behind the stool which held the famous Sorting Hat. The hat was said to have a mind of its own.

The Hat opened its "Mouth," a large tear in the front, and began to sing its song. (Insert song, I'm clueless).

The song finished, and all of the students in the room clapped, the noise resounding off the walls. Immediately, Professor McGonagall summoned a piece of parchment to her hand, and read off a name. Many names were called, then a certain name caught my attention. "Ronald Weasley."

Ron walked out of line and up to the stool, sitting down before the hat was dropped on his head. Less than a second after the hat was dropped, the tear opened up and screamed, "Gryffindor!"

The table with students wearing scarlet and gold clapped before the next name was called. "Hermione Granger."

The girl stepped out of line before walking up to the stool and had the hat dropped on her head. After about 30 seconds, the word, "Ravenclaw!" was announced.

Neville Longbottom was sorted into Gryffindor, as was Harry Potter. Finally, there were no students in line except for me. "Perseus Ambrosius."

Gasps spread throughout the hall, even some of the teachers gasping.

I walked slowly to the stool, easing down on it as the torn hat was dropped on my head. I immediately felt a presence attempt to break through my mental walls, my Occlumency training clearly too good for the presence to get through. I quickly let the hat into my mind, and it spoke in its leathery voice in my mind.

What do we have here?  A descendant of Merlin himself?  And Circe? Why, you could do great things in Slytherin. You are quite ambitious, as you are brave. Quite loyal as well. What to do with you? Ravenclaw would work perfectly as well. I cannot decide. What would you say, Lord Perseus?

The hat knew I was angry he had used the term lord, like so many other beings, and immediately apologized. I spoke back to the hat, I have no idea. My parents said that any house is fine for them.

Well then. I truly cannot decide. You are harder to sort than Dumbledore was. I will leave your mind, and call Dumbledore over as he is the last person in room, seeing as I have been in your head for more than two hours.

I quickly followed the instructions, glancing at the empty tables as I walked up to Dumbledore, still in his golden throne, and gave him the hat, which he put on his head.

After about ten minutes, the wizard took off the hat and put it on the table in front of him, before hauling himself up and walking to me. "Please follow me, Percy, I will tell you of your arrangements."

I followed Dumbledore out of the Great Hall and to the Entrance Hall, where he pulled out his wand and muttered the words, "Portentis Revelare."

Immediately, the golden statue of Merlin in the hall slid to the side, the noise metal grinding against the floor. Behind where the statue used to be was a large bronze door. Dumbledore reached down to the floor and picked up a golden key, and handed it to me. "This is where you will be staying. According to the Sorting Hat, you have all the core qualities of each house, making you fit for all of them. The hat told me of this corridor, the hall of Merlin. Merlin created this chamber for his personal studies after he finished learning. Inside you will find most things you will need, and you will need this key to open the door. Repeat the spell I used to move the statue. You are currently not in a house. We will worry about that later."
