A/N: This is old as CRAP but whatever OTP GOES FIRST HERE WE GO ENJOY
~~~Clockwork stirred awake to the soft sound of raindrops hitting their motel room window. The two only sources of light in the dark room were the digital clock next to her, and the dim light of the streetlights outside streaming through the window from in between the curtain. As she became more aware of her surroundings, she realized that she was no longer curled up in Jane's arms. She sighed and looked at the clock on the nightstand beside the bed. 4:07 AM, an ungodly hour to wake up for any reason.
What had woken her up anyways? She simply shrugged it off and laid her head back down, turning over and sleepily feeling around for her lover on the other side of the bed. Nothing. Clockwork opened her eye to see Jane sitting on the edge of the bed across from her, not sitting up straight, but slouching a bit. Concerned by this, Clockwork got up quietly walked over to Jane's side of the bed. Jane didn't notice her.
She seemed to be lost in thought, her expression having traces of anxiousness, and a small bit of anger. Clockwork sat down next to her. Once again, Jane didn't notice.
"Jane?" Clockwork asked, lightly tapping her shoulder.
"Y-Yeah?" Jane asked, flinching as she turned around to meet her gaze, her expression softening.
"Is everything okay? It's a bit early to be up, don't you think?"
"I'm sorry for waking you. Everything's fine, just go back to sleep."
"Are you sure?"
"D-Don't worry about it. Let's just go back to bed." Jane looked away, trying to focus on anything but the girl in front of her.
Clockwork lightly gripped Jane's chin and turned her head to face her. "Babe, if something's bothering you I want to know. I can't help you unless I do."
Jane sighed. "I.. I dreamt about him again," she mumbled quietly.
Clockwork's eye widened a bit. She knew damn well who Jane was talking about. Frankly, she wanted to hug Jane close, to comfort her, to tell her that everything was going be okay, but all she could do was stutter the word.
"H-Him.."
Jane nodded once to confirm. Clockwork scooted closer and laid her hand on Jane's leg. "What exactly happened this dream?" There was a slight pause, the only sounds in the room being the rain starting to pour down harder and Clockwork's ticking eye, before Jane sighed shakily and spoke.
"I was in my old house. It was empty and dark, and I walked upstairs to my parents' room. They were dead; horribly mutilated. Their throats were slit and his damn smile was cut into their cheeks. And then, I walked into my old bedroom, and I," Jane swallowed and started to breath harder. "I saw you, you and him. His knife was pressed up against your throat. I walked in and he.. slit it. I couldn't do anything, just watch him kill you as he laughed that damn psychotic laugh. I still remember it. I felt so broken and worthless for not being able to do anything about it, and the worst thing is that.. he didn't kill me. He just left me there with your corpse.."
Jane sniffled and blinked back the tears that threatened to come out. "I just wanted to die. I couldn't imagine going on; I couldn't think of a reason to live anymore."
Clockwork bit her lip. It broke her heart to see Jane like this, and she really regretted making Jane recount it. She wrapped her arms around Jane and pulled her up against her chest. "I'm.. I'm so sorry," Clockwork mumbled. "If I knew how bad it was, I wouldn't have asked. I'm sorry I couldn't be there to kill that bastard before he ever hurt you." Jane shook her head.
"No, it's okay. You didn't do anything wrong. Hell, I should be apologizing to you for waking you up with a childish nightmare, it just felt so real.. I would kill myself if I ever let that happen." Clockwork kissed her forehead.
"Janie, don't beat yourself up, you don't have anything to be sorry about. What happened all those years ago isn't your fault, I promise. I'm always here for you. No matter what we get ourselves into, I never plan on dying on you." Jane sighed and hugged Clockwork tighter.
"I know," Jane whispered. "Thanks for putting up with my crap this early in the morning, Clocky."
"No problem, Babe," Clockwork smiled. She kissed her passionately before they separated and laid back down, Jane possessively wrapping her arms around Clockwork. They laid there, the rain now pounding on the window and roof.
"Clockwork?" Jane asked.
"Yeah?"
"I don't care about what he did all those years ago. If he hadn't, I never would have met you. I have no clue how I'd ever live a happy life without you in it.. I love you. I love you so much."
Clockwork felt her heart melt inside, and she she smiled. "I love you too, Jane."
Soon, they both fell asleep to the sound of the cold rain pouring outside, staying warm in each others embrace.
