Excerpt from Chapter 1 of Desert Storm

"She wasn't going to finish her share of the dates. He knew it. She was going to leave them for him, sneaking them into his bag or giving them to him as a pre-flight snack.

Cricket didn't move. He stayed exactly where he was, pretending to be asleep. This wasn't unusual for him, but it was a secret that his mother had never figured out yet. He would always stay awake at night, pretending to be asleep to listen to Cougar rumaging around the tent.

He now realized with a small shiver that when he moved to Possibility, that sound of talons moving things around would no longer be there. No more worried, dark eyes. No more caring mother."
