"Irene! Wait up!" I yelled as I stumbled ahead to the tall, thin girl, her bright golden hair flowing behind her like a crown of sunshine. I had almost reached her when my foot caught on the bottom of my other shoe and I fell on top of her.
"Gah! Helena! Watch out! You're going to kill me in the halls one day!" My older sister stretched her hand out to me and I gratefully accepted it as she pulled me of the polished marble floor.
"Thank you," I sheepishly murmured to her, brushing the dirt of my white uniform. "Irene, I'm nervous about the test today," We stepped to the side in the halls, and Irene dug around for something in her bag.
"Don't be. The result doesn't even matter that much. We already know what the test with say, it won't be a big surprise when the results come in," Irene consoled me, tilting her head towards me just so I could see her warm brown eyes.
"It's not that I'm afraid of what the results will say about me, I know where I'm going. It's your results..." I trailed off, leaving the rest if my sentence unsaid. You see, Irene was my best friend. We were twins, though it's not as if anyone could tell. Her gold hair was wavy, cropped short to just above her shoulders. She had a tall, thin, feminine frame and chocolate brown eyes. I, on the other hand, had relatively straight long dirty blonde hair. I was short and of an average weight. My eyes were a dull grey-blue hue, ugly and dirty looking in comparison to hers.
Although we were twins, it was clear we didn't have the same father. My dad was probably mom's husband, whereas Irene's father is probably more divine than mine. We've all known for a while Irene is a demigod. She's happy and bright, good at archery and chariot riding, charismatic and everyone loves her. I'm just ...well... average. We're to take the demigod test today, which determines your future school. I'll go to Argos Academy, or drop out of school completely, while she goes on to Olympus High and possibly becomes a goddess herself! I don't want Irene to leave me. I don't want to go to high school alone, without her.
Irene sighed deeply and turned to me. "Helena, I promise I will visit and send letters to you and our parents. I will miss you, but you will go on to do great things at Argos," She said. "Now come on, I don't want to be late to take the test!" Irene slammed her bag shut and started towards the classroom. I wanted to say a million things; wanted to tell her to stay here with me, that our shared bedroom would feel empty without her, that I would miss her a million times over. But all I could do was mutely nod and walk towards the classroom, towards the rest of my life.
