When the bell rang the second time, everybody started leaving. I packed up my things and stood up. I saw that Eli was already waiting for my by the door. I walked over and waited for him to show me where our next class was. As we walked I noticed Eli was silent, a faraway look on his face. I guess he didn't have any questions for me. I had some for him though. "Eli?" He looked at me, for a second I could have sworn that his eyes had turned completely black. I blinked and it was gone.

"Yes, lass?" He waited for me to ask my question. In the time it took for me to remember what I was going to ask, I could not find the words.

"Um, I will ask you later." He nodded. We continued on in silence. It was not an awkward silence, like so many I have shared with Finny, but it was a very comfortable silence. After a while, Eli started asking questions again. We took turns asking and answering. I tried to answer as honestly as I possibly could. By the time class ended I had learned more about him in a few short hours than I knew about Finny, and I have known her for my entire life.

When our next class was about to start we had to go separate ways. I said goodbye and turned to leave, but I felt his hand on my shoulder. I turned back to face him and he wrapped his arms around me. I blushed and returned the embrace. When he let me go he smiled and walked into his classroom. I felt that tug in my gut again, I was all alone without anyone to talk to.

I sat down in the back, by the window. I see why Eli likes to sit here, I can see the trees and the ocean. I realized something, now that I am sitting here alone, without Eli. I will have to tell Daddy that I may have found a mate. I sighed, I really did not want to have that conversation through a letter. I will just have to tell him when I see him for the moon ceremony. I felt eyes on me and I turned around and found myself looking at a girl with soft brown hair, light brown eyes, and brown skin. She was looking at me, not blinking. I noticed that she had five sets of earrings in her ears, and another one in her nose.

"Like the stud's huh?" I nodded, shocked by how soft her voice was in contrast to her edgy exterior. "I'm Vivica by the way. Who are you? Are you new or something? I've never seen you around here before." I nodded again. "Can you speak?" I started to nod, but I stopped myself.

"Um, my name is Aura. I am new, I have only lived here got a month, and I really like your nose earring too." She laughed.

"Well you're the first, most people think its weird or something. Just 'cuz I'm the only girl in this town with metal on her face. Ha Ha Ha." I found myself smiling. Vivica's sarcastic joy was infectious.

"It's always nice to see someone who enjoys dead languages, or are you just here 'cuz they had nowhere else to put you?" I shook my head.

"No I am here because I find Latin a wonderful language. I also like French and German, but I am also learning Russian in my free time." She looked at a loss for words.

"You've learned three languages, and you're learning two now? That's impressive dude." I blushed a bit at her complement. One would think I would be used to compliments because there are so many other people in the palace who hold my family in the highest regard. But I am always surprised to hear one about me.

"So what are you doing in a little town like this? You look like the type of person who is ready for an adventure." I smiled.

"I am visiting my aunt for a few months." Vivica nodded.

"That's cool, family's gotta stick together. So have you met anyone else here yet?" I blushed a little.

"I found a boy I had met once when I visited here a few years ago." Vivica smirked.
