Lovers? No.
Friends? More than that.
Friends with benefits? Maybe, but she's so desperate for him she doesn't remember to care in the heat of the moment if they'll be between one and the other forever.
But either way, Ahsoka is about to find out the hard way just how far Lux is willing to go to impress someone – and maybe not the someone she thinks...
The first one, if Ahsoka remembered correctly, had been Anaye.
Ahsoka had been twenty-six at the time, and Lux had been twenty-seven. The shifting tide of work for the Rebellion had carried the two of them together in such a way that they had found it to be in their best interest to split the cost for a two-bedroom apartment in Iziz.
The sudden increase in proximity had led them to grow used to one another's habits, and so it came as a great surprise to her when Lux stumbled down the hallway into his room and collapsed on the bed without even taking off his boots – which he always did. In fact, he would constantly lecture her, because she had come to prioritize getting ready quickly over keeping her quarters clean during the Clone War, about tracking in mud from outside.
"I have a date tomorrow," was all the explanation he gave, and all the explanation she needed. The lipstick stains and dreamy smile plastered across his face said the rest.
One date turned into two, and two turned into dates anywhere from four to five times a week. Ahsoka did her best to brush it all off, but even so, there was something burning feverishly deep inside her. It took her a while, but eventually she realized it was jealousy. And it was feeding off the hated that someone was taking (or at least sharing) her place at Lux's side.
But what she wasn't able to decide – and wouldn't be able to for many months afterward – was whether or not she was jealous of someone coming between her friendship with Lux, or that Anaye prevented the possibility for a relationship she hadn't even known she wanted...
Lux and Anaye – Ahsoka had been hesitant about calling them a couple back then – lasted just over a month. Then, the pretty Theelin decided to call it quits to make a move on the tall near-Human who grinned wolfishly at Ahsoka every time she went into the local bar bar.
"He isn't even that good-looking!" Lux exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air.
"And you are?" Ahsoka was teasing him, but to her at least, the answer to that question was too obvious to even need a response – even by the sighing, girlish voice in her head that had a bad habit of bringing up flattering images of Lux at the worst possible times.
Then there was a Nura, and a Kanjyn, and a Lena. Lena was the worst one yet – Lux was absolutely distraught after they broke up. Seeing him in pain hurt her as well, and, with her limited knowledge of breakup coping strategies, she did her best to make him feel better.
And when he held her close and kissed her with tears still streaming down his cheeks, she didn't stop him.
That was when their peculiar tradition had started. About a week after each breakup – sometimes two if it had been one of the longer relationships, and he needed more time to cry and drink away the pain – he would come to her, and ask her if she wanted to try to make it work with him.
The attraction between them was there, and it was very real. But she didn't think either of them were actually brave enough to act upon it, so there was only one reply she ever gave him:
