I let the tears leak out of your corneas
even though I thought the reason why was stupid
I let you lean on me, dropping your weight
even though you were too heavy, I did not drop you
I let you confess and stick words in to my ears
even though they were too large and barely fit
I let you scream how you wanted to die
even though it hurt, I knew I would revive you
but the second
(beat.)
I broke and shattered like a beer bottle
hitting the edge of the concrete sidewalk
you spun on the heel of your right foot.
and run.
