Swim Free

Chapter 1

Haruka Nanase sat with his back to the locker, his jet black hair dripping down his back. He hadn't bothered drying or changing yet, so a puddle of chlorinated water had grown around him on the floor.

"We won." He opened his eyes slightly and looked up to see Makoto leaning against the locker opposite. Looking up at his friend, the smallest of smiles appeared on Haru's face.

"We did." He replied, before a comfortable silence fell upon the pair. Makoto turned to open his locker, grabbing a towel.

"I leave after the Summer." He said quietly, as he closed the locker door and turned back to his best friend.

"I know." Haru muttered. Again, silence filled the room, but this one was tenser than the last. Makoto's gaze was trained on Haru, who seemed determined to look anywhere but at him. He wanted to ask him so badly, but he didn't know.

"If you have something to say, get it out." The boy said after a while of Makoto's staring. Knowing each other since babyhood had it's perks, and being able to practically read the other's mind was one of them.
"It's not like anything you say will matter when you're gone." The words came out out harsher than he'd meant them, and Makoto frowned.

"Of course it does!" He snapped. Haru looked up lazily. Of course, everything would change when Mako left for university. He would be alone. Again. The only person who had remained when his parents and Rin left would be gone, on a plane to the capital.

"How? You'll be busy with school. I'll only ever see you in the Summer."

"Not if you came with me."

A/N so i'm starting a Mako x Haru story (woo!) This is my first story on Wattpad, and my first fanfic about an anime (I mostly write Harry Potter FanFiction, but i'm trying to branch out)
I hope you enjoyed this first chapter! It's not particularly long, but it ends on an important point. Obviously.
