"We're gonna miss you sweetie!" My mother cried. She hugged me crying into my shoulders. My father, who wasn't a very emotional guy, pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead. "Son," he said, "you better come back in one piece. Understand?"
"Yes sir!" I saluted. He moved back and pulled my mother away, just long enough for me to see Danielle. She was high school sweetheart. We meet my 11th year and have been dating ever since.
"Dani-"
"I don't want you to go! Please baby! Don't!"
"I have to baby. I'm sorry! I-I have something to tell you ..." I bent down on one knee and pulled out a small red box. My parents gasped. "Dani I've loved you since the first day we met and I knew I was going to love you forever and ever! And I hope you will except my proposal because you are my life! You keep me going! I love you!" I told her. She cried and pulled me into a hug yelling yes, yes I will marry you.
And that was what got my through the war. The idea of coming home to see Dani. Her beautiful eyes, her perfect skin, her sweet lips. I couldn't wait to get home to marry her. To love her unconditionally.
"Parker!" My sergeant yelled.
"Sir yes sir!" I saluted back.
"Congratulations, you managed not get yourself killed." He said. I slightly smiled thinking of the promise I made Dani. "Good luck with your girl Parker, you'll need it." He said walking off. A few other of my brother in arms were heading my way to California. We boarded he plane and took off. I held my dog tags. One for me, one for a brother I loss.
After we landed I took a cab home after saying farewell to my brothers. I had a month home and I was going to make the best of it. I was going to surprise Dani with visit. I didn't tell her about me visiting. I had the cab driver stop at a flower shop. I quickly picked up her favorite flowers. Chrysanthemums. They supposedly represented honestly in Victorian Times. I quickly got back in the car and had the driver take me to the love of my life's house.
I got out and paid. I quickly made my way to the door still dressed in my uniform. The door was unlocked? I'll have to talk to Dani about that. I opened the door and heard something coming from the back room. I followed the noise holding my flowers out ready to present them to my love, but when I opened the door ... my heart stopped. There she was with a another man doing sexual activities. I threw the flowers down and ran out. The aching pain in my chest refused to give up. I felt as if my heart broke in half. She ran after me.
"Gavin! Gavin wait! It's-it's not what it looks like!" She yelled running into the living room grabbing my arm before I could leave. I turned to her.
"It's not what it looks like!?" I yelled. "It looks like my fiancée is cheating on me while I was away fighting for our country!" I yelled. She started to tremble. The man walked into the room and pulled her back. He looked me in the eye and said, "she's mine now."
I couldn't stop myself. I punched him in the nose feeling satisfied when I heard a crunch.
"I fought for you! You kept me going! And this is what you do! I gave you everything!" I yelled.
I slammed the door at my departure and ran. I noticed a woman ... Sheryl. She was an older woman who would help. I asked if she could give me a ride to a buddy's of mine from the army. And she took me. She didn't question me
As I sobbed in her back seat. She just drove. And that's what I needed.
