Cinderella Reimagined

"Aye' Carter? Is this all you have to offer?" Arthur, the rude tradesman who has always hated me.

"Yes Sir Mr. Arthur." I said politely as I've been taught by my mother.

"Carter, you are a lousy salesman. No wonder your mother left you and your father." Arthur reminded me once again. He has always been jealous that my mother chose my father over him, and when she left all he wanted to do was rub it in my face.

"Arthur? Is that Carter?" Arthur's wife asked. Mrs. Fiona has always been nice to me. Even when her own husband was the one to say such cruel words. She slowly but gracefully walked up. "My, my Carter! You won't get much from those crops! My dear I would buy some from you, but I have bought all I need. I am so very sorry." She apologized.

"Do not fret. It is fine. I will just go into the village to sale the crops." I was grateful for Mrs. Fiona. I didn't want her to waste her money on the looks of myself.

I waved good day to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur, leaving with a cart full of crops. Hopefully I shall make it to the village before night falls and have time to cook up supper. I walked past the local farms and thought of how it must feel to wake up on a farm, working together with your family, having fun. Father doesn't treat me in such ways as a Father should. I am nothing to him but a servant, and that is all I shall ever be to that man.

I made it to the village and set my cart down waiting for someone, anybody to stop by. But no one stopped. Why would they? I am no farmer. I am merely a servant who needs to make money for my Father. Just as I was about to give up hope for anyone to stop by a woman ran at me.

"Oh thank goodness! I was worried I wouldn't have made it!" She looked carefully at what I was offering. I looked her over and noticed she had on a palace maid dress. Her shoes looked completely worn out. I looked at her bright red face. She was holding up the crops looking carefully at each and everyone of them. She looked beautiful standing there in deep thought. She looked up and smiled at me. Then I noticed her eyes. A beautiful, bright, green orbs.

"I will take them all." She said. I was surprised. Never have I ever been told that before. She reached into her dress pocket. I looked away. I remember Mother telling me it is rude to look inside a woman's pocket. I turned back seeing the woman look at me confused before realizing what she had done. She smiled softly and blushed.

She handed me the money but I didn't feel right about taking the money. I had to offer her something for buying my lousy crops.

"Miss, I cannot accept that money without feeling as if I have served you a great unjust." She casted a confused glance at me.

"And why is that?" She asked gaining confidence in what she was saying.

"I am sorry but please I ask of you to allow me to help you take these crops to where you are needing." I pleaded. I wasn't about to allow such a lady to walk by herself from what I assume is the castle. Which is miles away.

"No, no I am fine. Please do not help. I am able to do so myself." She begged. I looked into her eyes. She was begging. Even though my Mother would be very angry with me for allowing this woman to go on by herself. "If it is about the cart, I shall bring it back tomorrow." She said. I did not even think about that.

"Yes, thank you miss for your business." I said politely. She smiled taking hold of the cart and pushing off from where she had come from.

I wanted to follow her and make sure she arrived safely but I also didn't want to go back on my word. I went home. My Father yelled at me because I was late and the cart was gone. But I gave him most of the money so he didn't yell as much. I always kept a small amount of the money for myself. I used it when I needed something important like shoes, which I haven't had a new pair for a little more than two years. I cooked supper for my Father and his mistress and her children. She had two daughters who always tried to gain my attention, but I didn't pay them no mind. After I served them, I silently ate a small piece of bread without his permission. I went upstairs and starting to clean up. I needed to clean up the house before tomorrow. Father was having a party to announce the engagement for his mistress.
