This chapter is dedicated to WhySmile because she was the first person (other than my friend :D) to give me good criticism on this story. It's really nice to be told your story is actually worth something (whatever that something is. lol) Sooo... thanks! You're awesome!
Anyway enough with the blah blah! Here is the chappie!
Chapter 3rd: Meet the family
Shutting the front door behind me, I yelled in a sing- song voice.
"I'm hooome!"
As expected, I received no answer since there was no other human being in the building except from me. Plus, the house's wall and furniture apparently thought too low of me to answer back.
I shrugged my shoulders and made my way through the messy living room, stumbling over some scattered legos and a fluffy, green dinosaur riding a toy car. Man, do those legos hurt worse than a bunch of pins, I thought bitterly while I climbed the stairs limping.
After passing some doors, I reached my fort, the place that I prided in calling my bedroom. The place where I didn't have to put up with the rest of the kids in school and be whoever I wanted to be.
I threw my bag on top of the accumulating mess on my desk and striped out of my clothes. Then, I walked over to my closet and picked the most comfortable outfit I could find: a pair of gray sweatpants and a thick sweater.
After playing with the thermostat for a bit, I stood in the middle of my room slowly taking in the mess caused by a constant postponing of cleaning up for two weeks. I had so many things to do... Go to work, finish an essay and an article for the school newspaper and transfer the things covering my bedroom's floor to my wardrobe.
I gave a big dramatic sigh- one that would fit a dying man rather than a lazy teenager that just had a lazy day at school. A very bad day at school actually, I thought feeling my heart sink.
I had somehow managed to forget all of my problems on my way home, focusing entirely on the music blasting from the car's radio. But it was all coming back to me now...
The maths test. Logan's annoying behaviour. Oliver Pierce's elbow.
And worst of all... Amber Leenlay 's threat. Or warning as she had called it.
Amber could baptise her words any way she wanted but I knew the meaning of it. I was in big trouble. And the worst part is, I didn't even know why. Wasn't I the one who had warned Jackie not to mess with Amber this exact morning? When and why did the tables turn?
Suddenly, I felt dry and empty like a wilted flower and collapsed on my bedroom floor. My excitement for Michael's reaction had already faded and all I could feel was the need to curl up in a ball and fall asleep.
"And that I will do." I stated firmly addressing to myself.
Firstly, however, I needed to think of an excuse to skip my shift in work: I could do it another day. I crawled until I reached the phone and then slowly typed the bookstore's phone number scrunching up my face in my effort to remember it without having to check it on my phone list. After three failed attempts (one of which included calling a voodoo shop) I heard with relief Mr. Perkin's grumpy voice.
"Peter's bookstores here, how can I help you?"
"Hello, Mr. Perkins. This is Sam! I was wondering if..."
"Oh! Samantha. It's you." He paused momentarily. "Why aren't you at work? Your shift was supposed to start one hour ago."
I glanced at my watch. "No, Mr. Perkins, my shift on Mondays starts at 6 o'clock; I start at 5 on Thursdays." I explained to him calmly.
