"There she is." Mr. Capulet rested a pudgy hand on his son's shoulder, guiding him in the dim light of the restaurant. At a fancily dressed table in the back corner, was a father and daughter. Both wearing outfits that would make anyone assume them a part of the upper, upper class. Julian's shoulders were set back, blazer stretched tightly across them. His tie made him feel as if he were being strangled, and a peculiar feeling entered the soles of his feet that wouldn't allow him to move. It brought him back to being a child, scared of entering school by himself, or trying to avoid a place he did not like.
"Come on J! No need to be nervous!" His father chuckled just below his ear, pushing him along with a strength that did not match the tone of his voice. They were seated across from the duo, in comfortable plush seating arrangement, and were immediately presented with light foods and drink. Despite the soft drone of the violin and clinking of forks and knives on dinner plates, Julian Capulet was the least comfortable he had ever been in his 18 years of life. The fathers exchanged pointless, airy small talk as the daughter sent shy glances in the only son's direction.
"Paris, honey, why don't you introduce yourself to Julian? You've been making him wait for an awfully long time now." The rich man said, sending a wink to the younger male. The young woman was indeed beautiful, flowing dress, honey-colored hair, and eyes that would make any man melt into a puddle. But not Julian's type in the least bit.
"Nice to meet you, Julian. I'm Paris." She said, holding out her hand to shake. Julian nodded, murmuring:
"Julian Capulet." And shaking the small hand presented to him. It was a childish exchange, not much intellect or emotion, but just enough to satisfy the eyes of the parents. After the full extent of the first-course meal was spent, Julian got up noiselessly from his seat, stating that he needed to use the restroom. The party was more than willing to let him go, and Julian left, trying not to let them see his eagerness to get away.
