None of us wanted this to happen, but it did. It happened too fast, too hard to absorb that all of us are stuck in an apocalypse.
I am Rykel McAllister and this is my story.
--------------
"And that ends our lecture in Territorial Crisis, class. Just be sure to ready yourselves for a surprise quiz sometime next month, right after your semestral break." Our economics teacher told his last reminders after the school bell rang, telling us it was dismissal time.
Finishing the last notes on the blackboard, I excitedly closed my notebook and put it back in my bag. I slung the knapsack over my shoulder and bolted for the back door.
I could hear my teacher shouting my name from the corridors but I was far away before he could even chase me through the school halls. I looked at my wristwatch.
Letting out a heavy sigh, I sprinted faster. I was heading for the school cafeteria. They were waiting for me. And if I was late, I'd get a good scolding from them.
I slid down the stair railings. Good thing there weren't any teachers around...
As I reached the ground floor, I ran past the court without getting hit by the balls being thrown all over the place because of an all-out dodgeball game.
Skidding down to a halt, I looked all over the almost empty school cafeteria to find them. There were a couple of other students left, but I had a hard time, considering I just sprinted from the third floor.
'Finally.' I thought to myself as I found them sitting on one of the small tables nearby the snack stalls. One was busy doing something with her crafty phone while the other, looking around for someone, her eyes filled with impatience.
I walked to their table unnoticed. I took a chair as I went for them, incompletely taking notice that someone was going to sit down but sat on their ass on the floor instead.
They were sitting across each other so I placed down the chair at the middle. I sat down, "Hey guys!"
My greeting startled them. The master D.I.Y crafter and fashion blogger, Kaye Ann, tossed her phone in the air and almost dropped it if Miss Silent Scientist, Mikaela, didn't catch it. I looked at them to see annoyed faces...
'Uh oh.' I thought but then spoke to somehow lighten the mood. "Come on, guys. What's with the long faces?"
The two exchanged a dissapointed look. Mika let out a large sigh. "School's postponing our semestral break..."
My eyes widened, surprised. But before I could even speak out, Kaye Ann continued. "And it's all because of you." She said as she pointed her well-manicured index finger at me.
Pointing at myself in disbelief, they stood up. Mika went behind me and grabbed the back if my collar, half-dragging me out of the cafeteria with Kaye Ann following.
Mika let go of my collar when we reached the bulletin board of the junior high department.
"Have you read the notices from the bulletin board lately?" Mika asked me.
"No?" I replied, chuckling and smirking. I do read books that I have interest in. But if you want me to read the news, good luck.
Their faces didn't seem to reply well as they rolled their eyes at me. If it was Mika, I'd understand but if it's Kaye Ann, I would be annoyed rather than thankful. Sometimes, I don't get the point of women rolling their eyeballs.
