Stagkit watched his brothers pounce on each other. Flashkit growled as Sunkit pinned him to the ground. Sunkit purred, "I told you I wasn't weak!"
Flashkit snorted, "I let you pin me down! Hey Stagkit come and join us!"
Stagkit shook his head, "I told you, I'd rather watch." Stagkit wondered when his mother and father would be back from hunting.
Heronswoop padded into the nursery, her belly swollen with kits. She wouldn't have her kits until a moon, and by then Stagkit and his siblings would be out of the nursery.
Heronswoop smiled at the kits, "You little ones will be great warriors someday!"
Sunkit smiled and said, "Hi Heronswoop!" The queen simply nodded in greetings, "How about you little ones go play outside?" Stagkit got up and padded out of the den, his brothers on his tail.
Flashkit darted past Stagkit and declared, "We should race!"
Stagkit smiled and ran towards Flashkit, "Your on! I'm faster than both of you!" Sunkit squeaked, "That is so not true!"
Stagkit laughed, "Oh yes it is!" Flashkit crouched down and got ready to run, Stagkit and Sunkit did the same. Flashkit smiled, "Ready, set, go!!"
The kits sprang forward. The newleaf breeze blew through Stagkits pale brown fur as he darted towards the leader, Ryestar. He looked back, seeing Flashkit was close to passing him, he took bigger strides and tried running as fast as he could.
He nearly crashed into Ryestar, and came to a screeching stop.
Ryestar looked at the three panting kits.
She smiled and shook her head, "Go on, the three of you." Stagkit pranced over to the fresh-kill pile and grabbed a large rabbit for him and his siblings.
Whiteviper, a large white tom padded towards the fresh-kill pile.
He looked at Stagkit and asked, "Do you know where your father is?" Stagkit nodded, "Robinleap and Doespring went hunting." Whiteviper nodded and grabbed a plump bird off the fresh-kill pile then walked off.
He dragged the rabbit to where his brothers were. "Here guys!" Hawkpaw, Windclans eldest apprentice padded up, "Nice catch wasn't it?" He purred.
Flashkit looked up in shock, "Did you catch that?" Hawkpaw nodded.
It's all thanks to my mentor though! He's the one who trained me how to catch something that big!"
Hawkpaw looked over at Whiteviper, pride shining in his green eyes.
Stagkit hoped he would have a mentor like Whiteviper. Hawkpaw flicked his tail, "I'm going to go clean out the elders nests! Hey, here's a tip, do your duties before your told, it helps you earn respect!"
Flashkit snorted as Hawkpaw walked away.
"No thanks! I don't want to voluntarily clean out bedding!" Stagkit ignored his brother. He knew what Hawkpaw had said was smart.
Hawkpaw will be a warrior soon I bet.
The camp entrance rustled and his mother and father stepped into camp. Stagkit's heart pounded and he got up and leapt towards his father. Their wasn't a cat he loved more that his father, Robinleap. Doespring smiled as Stagkit neared them, "Miss us?" Stagkit smiled happily and purred.
Robinleap placed one of his paws on Stagkits head,
"How was your morning son?" Stagkit's cobalt eyes lit up as he told his father about his, Sunkit, and Flashkit's race across camp.
"You three will be the fastest Windclan cat's ever!" Robinleap purred. Stagkit smiled and Doespring licked her son's forehead. Flashkit came racing over with a big feather in his mouth.
Doespring gasped, "Oh Flashkit! We're did you find that it's very pretty!" Stagkit looked at the pretty violet colored feather. It had a dark purple, almost blue, tip, and it shimmered in the New-leaf sun shine. Flashkit said, "Me and Sunkit found it by the warriors den! Do you want it Mother?"
Doespring smiled and nodded, "Thank you kits, it's very pretty." Stagkit had to agree with his mother.
Robinleap looked at Doespring with warmth shining brightly in his green eyes.
Stagkit bounced around his father,
"Dad can you teach us a battle move? Please? Or the hunting crouch again?" Sunkit yawned, "Oh please no, I've done that enough today," He shot a glare at Flashkit, and Flashkit stuck his tongue out.
"Can't we play hide the stick? I've got a nice stick hidden in the nursery!" Sunkit asked. Robinleap purred, "We can do both surely."
Doespring said, "First I think we should move out of the way of the entrance, go on kits." Stagkit bounced away excited, he loved spending time with his family.
The sun began to set and Stagkit jaws stretched into a wide yawn. "Kits! Let's go into the nursery and get settled down." Doespring called.
The three brothers hurried to the nursery, their mother about to follow. "Can we do everything we did today tomorrow? It was fun!" Stagkit mewed to his mother.
Doespring smiled warmly, "I'll see what we c-" she was cut off by a sudden fit of coughs.
Stagkit froze, "Mother?" He whispered, worry bubbling up in him. Finally she stopped hacking and was gasping for air.
"Mother?" Stagkit whimpered again. Doespring managed a smile, "I'm fine Stagkit, just a little cough I'm okay now."
Stagkit nodded, but felt as if she was lying. As they curled up together in the nest, Stagkit whispered, "Mother, promise you won't ever leave me.."Doespring froze and looked down at Stagkit. "Sweetie, I could never leave you, ever. Now get some sleep."
Stagkit smiled and fell asleep feeling more reassured.
