We Have To Try-

Mitch and I leave the lake after hours of swimming, hours of having fun and hours of not being sad.

We walk back to the cabin, standing very close to each other.

"That was the most fun I have had in a while Mitch. Thank you." I tell him.

"I had fun too. It was great." He replies.

We walk into the cabin where his mom stands in the living room. "Where have you two been? I have been worried sick for hours!" She asks frantically. "Mom, we went for a walk, then swam for a while. Its okay. We are okay." Mitch replies calmly. I stand there awkwardly, waiting to leave.

His mom gives Mitch a look of annoyance but relief when she walks back to the living room. Mitch and I follow her there, where I see two girls and a boy sitting in there. "Who is this Mitch?" One of the girls asks. "This- is Cassy. I found her." "You found her? What is she, a dog?" The other girl jokes. I smile. I like this. I like his family. "I was walking in the woods when I got lost and fell. Mitch found me.. and yeah." I tell everyone. A round of nods and understanding looks flash across the room. "We will be going now." Mitch says leading me towards his room. "Don't have too much fun, Mitch." One of the girls say. Mitch shoots her a glare as we shut the door. I sit down on his bed, as I ask: "So, that was your family? Or.." "Yeah. Kayleigh, Marie and Connor. My siblings." "Where is your dad..?" I ask hesitantly. "He's out. Fishing or something. Something men do in the woods." He tells me. What a relief. I thought his dad left him, for some reason. "And you're not a man?" I ask laughing. He laughs. Not a real laugh, but a short, adorable laugh. "Nope. I'm a benja." He jokes. "Ha-Ha." I reply. "We should sleep." He states. "Okay. I'm tired anyways." I tell him. We lay down in his bed, which is fairly big. I feel awkward. I just met him today, in reality. As much as I want to lay with him, not have sex, just lay there, like in Looking For Alaska. I wanted so badly to lie down next to her on the couch, to wrap my arms around her and sleep. Not fuck, like in those movies. Not even have sex. Just sleep together in the most innocent sense of the phrase. But I lacked the courage and she had a boyfriend and I was gawky and she was gorgeous and I was hopelessly boring and she was endlessly fascinating. So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk, thinking that if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was hurricane. It was like Mitch and I. I was a drizzle, he was a hurricane.
