The almost distant sound of the television playing was just about the only thing keeping you awake. Well, that and the expectation of your girlfriend's arrival home.
This was how most days went, Lena leaving sometime in the morning and not getting back until the sun had already set. You often didn't mind though, being a hero isn't a quick and easy job.
It seems that her line of work not only affected you ,though, because when she twisted the door knob and entered the house, that trademark Lena Oxton smile was nowhere to be found.
"What's wrong babe?" You asked softly, sitting up and patting the spot next to you on the couch. She sighed and plopped down next to you, immediately putting her head in your lap.
"Just had a rough mission today is all," She answered as you ran your fingers through her short hair, something she loved that you did when she was upset.
A small smile made its way to your lips,"You wanna talk about it over some hot cocoa?" You offered to her delight. She sat up and nodded quickly. You giggled and got up from the couch, making your way to the kitchen and rummaging through the cabinets for the cocoa mix.
Once you found it, you grabbed a pot and filed it with water. While you were at the stove, Lena followed you into the kitchen and walked up behind you, sliding her arm around your waist and resting her head on your shoulder,"You're the best, you know that luv?"
You turned your head and planted a kiss on her cheek with a giggle,"I know."
